The Position: As the leader for the HMI team within our Advanced Vehicle Technology Organization, you’ll play a

pivotal role in shaping the future of our telemetry technology. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams of

engineers, your expertise will drive the data helping optimize vehicle performance, enhancing safety, and ensuring

operational efficiency. This role offers an exciting opportunity to your technical skills, creativity, and strategic

influence to solve complex challenges in a fast-paced and rewarding environment while mentoring and empowering

the team.

The team of cloud engineers are based in Querétaro, Mexico and Collingwood, Ontario, making up one of four

verticals in the Vehicle Management Systems department, which is shaping the design and build out of our data

ecosystem and control platforms. You will be responsible for new feature development like multi camera integration,

HMI to surface screen mirroring for remote operation, and several new vehicle application build outs. The successful

candidate will be at the forefront of a rapidly growing technology sector, directly contributing to innovative solutions

for real-world challenges in underground mining battery electric and diesel telemetry.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

  • Lead a team of engineers in designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining scalable and secure cloud-based

solutions for telemetry data processing and visualization.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and

continuous improvement.

Human Machine Interface Development

  • Oversee the development and enhancement of intuitive and responsive PLC based visualization and user

interaction.

  • Ensure UI and UX design principles are implemented effectively, meeting both functional and aesthetic

requirements and engaging actively with the design process in Figma.

  • Utilize CODESYS (V3.5 SP16 Patch 4, V3.5 SP19, V2.3 etc.) for PLC based HMI development on IFM product lines like

CR1204 and CR1082.

  • Understand CAN protocols, including CAN Open and J1939, for effective communication with vehicle systems and

intelligent processing/display of vehicle data.

  • Evaluate opportunities for improvement and support cross-organizational GUI development with a familiarity in

PyQt, RVIZ, C++ QT, tkinter, and other available GUI development frameworks.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, QA, and operations to align

technology solutions with business objectives, serving as a technical liaison assisting with requirements gathering,

project status reporting, and feature selection decisions.

  • Understand and interface with teams and software utilizing the safety side of PLCs.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system architecture, configurations, and processes.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, data protection standards, and industry best practices.

Deployment and Project Management Tools

  • Utilize development tools like Visual Studio Code and project management tools like Azure DevOps.

  • Utilize Docker and git for deployment and version management.

  • Design and implement automated testing suites, environment management, and deployment pipelines (Jenkins,

Azure).

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and problem-solving

capabilities. They will demonstrate organizational skills, discipline, an aptitude for proactive learning, and a positive

attitude. Additionally, they should meet the following qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of engineering development experience in software engineering, mechatronics, electrical

engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with the job responsibilities and duties described above.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages, primarily Spanish

and French, is an asset.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field is an asset.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license or similar certification is an asset.

  • Mobile vehicle telemetry and Mining experience are an asset
