**DISTRICT 1.0 F.T.E. CONTINUING INCLUSIVE EDUCATION DISTRICT COUNSELLOR (ITINERANT) ******
As a member of the Inclusive Education Department, the District Counsellor supports priority learners and their families across school, home, and community settings, including on-reserve services. While the position supports students in K – 12, the focus is primarily on students in elementary schools. This role also provides district-level leadership in advancing Inclusive Education and receives a Coordinator stipend.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver mental health services to in-person and remote students
- Work flexible hours, including evenings, to meet student and family needs
- Lead district initiatives in SOGI and Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA)
- Collaborate with Inclusive Education staff, Indigenous communities, and external agencies
- Advocate for students and families
- Partner with the Integrated Child and Youth Team and school-based teams
- Support staff (teachers, counsellors, CYCWs, administrators) in addressing student needs
- Assist with safety planning, risk assessments, and incident response
- Connect students and families with community resources
- Support district programs (e.g., MindUp)
- Provide training, coaching, and consultation on assessment, instruction, and behaviour support
- Assist case managers in the application and maintenance of Category H students
- Work in collaboration with the district's Integrated Child and Youth Team
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Counselling (school counselling focus or equivalent)
- Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate
- Knowledge of Ministry of Education and Inclusive Education policies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and consultation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with external agencies (e.g., Child & Youth Mental Health, The Maples)
- School counselling experience (elementary and/or secondary)
- Knowledge of Inclusive Education practices, IEPs, and school-based teams
- Experience with emotional/behavioural disorders and crisis response
- Training in risk/threat assessment and suicide risk assessment
- Experience supporting Indigenous students and families on reserve
- Level B testing certification
- Experience leading and supporting multidisciplinary teams
