About the role

Position: Ward Clerk Department: Ambulatory Services

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Graduate of a Community College in the Medical Office Administration Program or equivalent required
  • Medical Terminology Certificate required
  • Two (2) years clerical experience in a clinical setting required
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Keyboarding (45 wpm/95% accuracy) and Data Entry (6200 kph/95% accuracy) skills required
  • Experience in Meditech scheduling module (registering patients, scheduling appointments) required
  • Knowledge of collective agreements, payroll time sheet computer entry experience required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability in data collection, reporting and statistical analysis required
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written required
  • Commitment to obtain and maintain Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) Certification provided by the NBRHC required
  • Commitment to adhering to the OTN, NBRHC standards of care around privacy in telemedicine setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with physicians and other healthcare professionals at the NBRHC and throughout the Northeast Region
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively promote and implement technological and computer application to facilitate patient consultations, education sessions, administrative meetings and other virtual events required
  • Excellent time management, problem solving and organizational skills (must be flexible and able to work with interruptions, conflicting demands and subject to time pressure) required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in an environment of high activity required
  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Ability to transcribe Physician’s orders an asset
  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario

NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.

NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.

NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.

A major teaching centre for students in medicine, psychiatry, nursing and allied health professions, NBRHC is proud to be affiliated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Nipissing University, Canadore College and several other Ontario colleges and universities.
