Clinical Externs are unregulated healthcare providers who will be working as part of an interprofessional team and provide patient-centered care under the direct and/or indirect supervision of an identified Health Professional and who reports to the Manager of each Clinical Program. The Clinical Extern will practice in a manner consistent with the organizational Mission, Vision and Values in alignment with the outlined job description, while considering the limitations in their ability to perform controlled acts as authorized by the professional colleges.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND PHYSIOTHERAPY STUDENTS:

  • Must be enrolled in an Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy program and be able to provide an official school transcript.

RESPIRATORY THERAPY STUDENTS:

  • Must be in second or third year of a Respiratory Diploma program and be able to provide an official school transcript.

MEDICAL STUDENTS:

  • Must be an undergraduate medical student in the final year of an accredited medical education program leading to a MD degree OR a recent graduate who is awaiting the start of an accredited residency program and be able to provide an official school transcript.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Self-motivated, responsible, and organized
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work days, evenings, nights and weekends (8 and 12 hour shifts)
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
