Finance Operations Specialist

Full Time, Term 6 months

(Note: This is a clean-up role focused on resolving outstanding financial issues and strengthening reporting accuracy. It is not a standard long-term finance operations role)

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

The Finance Operations Specialist will support the Finance team in a temporary 6-month capacity, focused on resolving outstanding financial issues and strengthening reporting accuracy. This role is designed for a specialist with deep technical expertise who can quickly assess, address, and correct inconsistencies in reconciliations, journal entries, and financial processes. The successful candidate will contribute to short-term cleanup efforts and help establish a more stable foundation for ongoing financial operations.

Responsibilities:
Bank Reconciliation

• Complete monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank statements and general ledger.
• Support efforts to clear backlog and ensure accuracy in bank records.

Month-End Closing

• Prepare and post journal entries for amortization, accruals, and revenue recognition.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports.
• Contribute to cleanup of prior period entries and ensure completeness of month-end processes

General Ledger Reconciliations

• Reconcile key balance sheet accounts including prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and deferred revenue.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date reconciliation schedules.
• Identify and correct inconsistencies in financial data.

Process Improvement & Compliance

• Support the review and enhancement of internal financial policies and procedures.
• Assist in documenting and implementing improved reconciliation and reporting practices.
• Help address gaps in documentation and controls.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve inconsistencies in financial records. Strong understanding of accounting principles, including revenue recognition and amortization. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Dynamics, or similar). Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas). Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results within a defined timeframe. Analytical thinking and problem-solving. Attention to detail and accuracy and strong organizational and time management skills. Effective communication and collaboration. Proactive and solutions-oriented approach to financial challenges

Undergraduate Degree in Accounting/Finance is required.

Five to seven years’ proven experience in accounting or finance, with a strong focus on reconciliations and month-end

Processes is required. Five to years’ experience working on financial cleanup or correction projects is a strong asset.

Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications and a clear Criminal Records Check with results acceptable to TI is required. The ability to speak Inuktitut and availability to work evenings and weekends in preferred.

Salary and Benefits

• Salary range is between $60,000- $70,000.
