About the role
As a Measurement and Sampling Technician, you will collect samples and measure all products produced at our Refinery in Saint John, NB, following established processes. Your goal will be to ensure accurate sampling and measurement that supports product quality and quantity standards critical to our business. Your success will depend on your ability to work safely in all weather conditions, adapt to rotating 12-hour shifts, climb up to 70 feet, and occasionally board marine vessels. Demonstrating mechanical aptitude, strong math skills, and a safety-first mindset will be key to excelling in this role.

Your Responsibilities
- Collect samples according to all safety protocols and collection standards
- Measure and obtain temperatures of various hydrocarbon products
- Perform calculations from measurement data to generate quantity reports
- Assist more experienced loss control specialists as required
- Monitor third party contractors as they perform various functions; ensure work is being completed to Irving Oil and industry standards

- Willing and able to work towards becoming qualified in a field job – you will have an assigned mentor and trainer
- Ability to think, solve problems, and troubleshoot issues
- Comfortable learning new software systems
- Able to work rotating 12-hour shifts days, nights, and weekends outdoors in the plant, year-round in all types of weather
- Able to bend, stoop, crawl, lift up to 40lbs, enter confined spaces, climb up to 70’
- Must be able to use SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) safely
Your Experience
- Minimum high school education. A background in Trades, Process Controls, Terminal Operations, Industrial Controls, or Engineering Technology is an asset (but not required)
- Mechanical background and aptitude
- Strong math skills
- Good computer skills; solid knowledge of Excel (e.g. update spreadsheets, verify formulas, cross reference data)
- Minimum Class 5 Driver’s License is required
