The Opportunity
McElhanney is seeking a Project Hydrogeologist who is ready to take meaningful ownership of project delivery while continuing to advance their technical expertise in hydrogeology. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to technical work, to manage projects, and to play a pivotal role in supporting and expanding our company-wide hydrogeology portfolio.
This position is well suited for someone who is eager to grow personally and drive growth at McElhanney in an exciting expanding practice. Mentorship will be available from senior leaders in technical delivery, business development, client engagement, proposal development, and strategic practice growth. Over time, this role may offer the future opportunity to grow a team, supported by experienced technical and management professionals who are committed to fostering long term career development.
Our hydrogeology team has established strengths in urban hydrogeology, aquifer assessments, wastewater dispersal studies, and groundwater supply development. We are now focused on enhancing these services while expanding further into the Energy & Resource markets, including Open Pit and Underground mining.
The successful candidate will be part of the Specialty Services Division in our Kamloops branch. This division supports a wide variety of projects across British Columbia and Alberta in the municipal, land development, industrial, mining, disaster recovery, mapping, and transportation sectors. Our clients include municipalities, First Nations, developers, and organizations in the energy, resources, and transportation industries.
**Location:**This position is based in Kamloops. Exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates. Relocation compensation is available.

What You’ll Do
- Own the delivery of hydrogeological projects and collaborate as a team as part of larger multi-disciplinary projects.
- Conduct hydrogeological assessments, including groundwater supply evaluations, aquifer testing, and contaminant hydrogeology studies.
- Support the design, installation, and testing of monitoring and production wells.
- Analyze groundwater data and prepare technical reports, figures, and recommendations for clients.
- Lead or support field programs, including drilling oversight, well development, sampling, and hydraulic testing. Field work, including multi-day overnight trips, will be occasionally required.
- Contribute to wastewater dispersal studies, groundwater–surface water interaction assessments, and recharge analyses.
- Experience with underground dewatering design would be a strong asset.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing within the Technical Service Groups (TSG).
- Collaborate with McElhanney wide multidisciplinary TSGs focused on Water Resources, Environmental, Geotechnical and Infrastructure projects.
- Experience with proposal development/delivery would be a strong asset.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or geosciences with coursework in hydrogeology; a Master’s degree in hydrogeology is an asset.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC.
- Minimum 5 years of experience, ideally in a consulting environment.
- Familiarity with hydrogeology issues, regulations, and permitting requirements in BC (asset).
- Experience with hydrogeology data management tools and analysis software.
- Strong field experience, including groundwater assessment techniques, drilling supervision, well design and installation, and well inspection, testing, and maintenance.
- Project management experience is an asset.
- Proficiency with data management tools (Excel, Word, etc.) and hydrogeology software such as AQTESOLV, Hydro GeoAnalyst, or similar.
- Valid (or in progress) Class 5 driver’s license.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $130,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
