Summer Student - Finance Clerk
About the role
SUMMARY
The Finance Clerk will assist the finance department with all administrative and clerical duties pertaining to the accounts payable and receivable to meet the needs of the organization’s financial operations.
DUTIES
- Maintain a well-organized accounts payable system
- Invoice and payment processing on a timely basis, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with Keewaytinook Okimakanak policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
- General journal entries and reconciliations.
- Maintenance of the purchase order system – matching to invoice, closing and following up on outstanding open POs
- Liaise with all KO Departments and Vendors as it relates to Accounts Payable
- Perform office duties such as photocopying, faxing, and filing.
- Provide back up to any other finance position when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in regard to funding and department revenues, accounts receivable and cash receipts
- Process AR invoices, credit notes and adjustments accurately and timely
- Enter all receipts and bank deposits
- Monthly Statements prepared and distributed to customers
- Reconciling AR Sub-ledger to GL Control Account
- Collections and Customer Follow Up
- Maintain good customer relations
- Maintain Accounts Receivable Filing System
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement: Youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period and can be up to 30 years old at the end of the employment period, provided they were 30 at the start.

Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or be granted refugee protection in Canada. As per Canada Summer Jobs funding guidelines.

Must possess a valid Social Insurance Number.

Ability to speak/write Cree, Oji-Cree or Ojibway is a very strong asset along with a demonstrated competence in written and oral English.

Knowledge of the culture and traditions of the First Nation communities Keewaytinook Okimakanak serves is an asset.
The hourly wage for this position is $17.60

About KEEWAYTINOOK OKIMAKANAK
Keewaytinook Okimakanak, which means Northern Chiefs in Oji-Cree, is a non-political Chiefs Council serving Deer Lake, Fort Severn, Keewaywin, McDowell Lake, North Spirit Lake and Poplar Hill First Nations. The organization is directed by the Chiefs of the member First Nations who form the Board of Directors. Through its close awareness of community needs and its team approach, the Council advises and assists its member First Nations. The Council provides services in the areas of health, education, economic development, employment assistance, legal, public works, finance and administration, and computer communications (K-Net Services). The Executive Director liaises with the six Chiefs, with the staff of the Council and with other organizations and governments.
