Position Summary Clinical Coordinator, Quality and Special Projects - Emergency Department As a member of the ED Leadership team, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations in the Emergency Department (ED) including program planning, supporting clinical practice and quality improvement activities, and monitoring performance metrics. The Clinical Coordinator will provide leadership in rapidly changing situations and function as an autonomous professional who works independently and interdependently supporting the healthcare team. You are highly organized, able to succeed in a fast paced and high-volume client-facing environment and are eager to engage with new challenges every day. You also have well-developed interpersonal, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and can work effectively independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team. You have excellent verbal and written communication, teaching and project management skills. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Provides direction and guidance to all members of the health care team, patients and their families, groups and organizations and collaborates with the health care team members to plan for the care of patients and families
  • Supports staff in utilizing critical thinking skills in resolving clinical and administrative issue
  • Act as a resource to clinicians as it relates to North York General Hospital care delivery processes
  • Work with the ED leadership team, staff, physicians and patient experience and quality team quality improvement team on PDSA related to quality and patient safety projects and other patient care initiatives
  • Assist in the implementation and evaluation of targets, goals and objectives as identified both internally and externally within projects
  • Engage in evidence-based practice and may initiate changes to enhance the quality of patient care in the Emergency Department as appropriate including the planning, implementation and evaluation of the introduction of ‘best practice’
  • Lead and implement ED projects such as acting as the Accreditation Lead for the ED

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Certificate of Competence from the college of Nurses of Ontario
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing, Health studies or administration, Masters in Nursing, preferred
  • 5-10 years of experience in an Emergency Clinical setting
  • Well-developed knowledge of clinical nursing practice, research methodology, data collection and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise/communicate in a professional and courteous manner
  • Committed to ongoing professional development
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with the Clinical Team Managers, Clinical Coordinator, and Clinical Nurse Educator on unit specific, corporate and external projects
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate special projects
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrated expertise in the clinical area
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to coach, and motivate the health care team
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and strong multitasking skills in a fast paced clinical environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including the ability to formulate graphs and tables
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve cooperation and coordination of corporate staff members and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrates and role models values consistent with mission, vision and values of the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills and written and oral communication skills
  • Solid working knowledge of Cerner PowerChart, Launch Point application as well as e-CTAS
  • In depth understanding of North York General Emergency Department work flow
  • Ability to deal with problems and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in changing environments
