Reporting to the Manager, CZT Patterning Operations and Prototypes, the successful applicant will assume a key role in process sustainability, improvement and optimization of the company’s semiconductor radiation detector products for capacity, yield and cost improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Optimizing semiconductor fabrication processes such as photolithography, metallization and dicing.
- Responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining dicing processes for CZT semiconductor wafers. This role involves process characterization, troubleshooting, yield improvement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance precision dicing techniques while ensuring high-quality output and minimal material loss.
- Monitor and analyze dicing-related defects such as chipping, cracks, and centrality deviations, implementing corrective actions.
- Work closely with metrology and inspection teams to establish quality criteria and ensure adherence to tight tolerances.
- Investigate process variations and implement statistical process control (SPC) to improve consistency.
- Evaluate, qualify, and maintain dicing equipment, blades, and other consumables.
- Troubleshoot and resolve dicing tool failures or process inefficiencies.
- Work with vendors to source and qualify new dicing equipment, consumables, and automation improvements.
- Provide technical guidance to production operators and technicians to ensure best practices are followed.
- Finding continuous improvement opportunities utilizing a wide variety of basic analytical techniques (run charts, control charts, histograms, pareto charts)
- Developing solutions to improve process quality and reduce process cost and cycle time.
- Designing and executing Design of Experiments (DOE) and conducting statistical analysis of data for process optimization, improvement and reporting.
- Generate technical reports and recommendations based on experimental data.
- Documenting the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for various device fabrication processes and material/device characterization instruments.
- Develop process monitoring and control metric and advise on proper inline metrology.
- Contributing to the tech transfer function between R&D, Engineering and Manufacturing.
- Conducting failure analysis and troubleshooting of non-conforming manufactured product to determine root cause
Experience
Required:
- 1 to 2 years of manufacturing experience, preferably with direct experience in semiconductor material and device fabrication or equivalent industries
- Hands-on experience with mechanical dicing saws (e.g., DISCO, ADT) or laser dicing technologies is strongly preferred.
- Statistical analysis experience using Minitab or JMP software
Skills/Additional requirements:
- Experience in mechanical design of simple jigs and fixtures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of SolidWorks, CAD software for fixture design, metrology tools, and defect analysis techniques.
- Attention to details and ability to recognize/report unforeseen experimental deviations
- A very hands-on and innovative individual that works well in a team environment and with non-routine tasks.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and being able to work with limited supervision; and
- Demonstrated positive attitude and self-motivation
Work Environment:
- Cleanroom and semiconductor manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on work with dicing equipment and high-precision metrology tools.
- Interaction with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams.
Education
- MSc. or BSc. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Semiconductor Processing or equivalent.
Salary Range: $75,000 to $90,000 CAD
