Position Description Title: Weaving Department Supervisor Department: Textiles
Immediate Supervisor: Manufacturing Supervisor
Status: Exempt
Position Purpose: T he Weaving Department Supervisor drives on-site performance towards the achievement of company business objectives relating to safety, productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and efficiency. The Supervisor achieves results through others by providing clear communication, coaching, and addressing employee concerns to promote a culture of teamwork and accountability. The Supervisor will work to improve the capabilities of the department by addressing key performance indicators related to people, process and equipment.
Principle Accountabilities
- Responsible for management of the Weaving department consisting of 130 weaving machines and proving leadership to 50- 80 employees across multiple shifts.
- Ensure quality, safety, engagement, and environmental standards are being met.
- Monitor productivity throughout the shift and adjust tasks, resources, scheduling, or inputs so that production targets are met, and resources are used efficiently.
- Primarily responsible for coaching and developing the team members.
- Participates in the selection and interview processes to fill hourly employee positions.
- Conducts employee reviews and maintains training and performance documentation.
- Initiates improvement efforts (get suggestions, lead team problem solving sessions, implanting resolution).
- Supervises and leads departmental safety and housekeeping practices and maintains a constant alert for hazardous conditions.
- Educates employees and enforces company rules and regulations, including but not limited to safety rules and regulations, policies and procedures, production, and quality expectations.
- Manages hourly employee performance including administering discipline where necessary.
- Leads and participates in company-sponsored activities such as training, site projects and safety programs.
- Primarily responsible for production-related administrative tasks such as payroll hours approval, reporting and associated tasks.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills And Experience
- Post-secondary degree/diploma/trade certification, preferably in industrial technology or engineering, or management preferred
- Experience working with quality systems.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing. A combination of education and supervisory experience in a similar industry may be considered.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with demonstrated skills in making sound decisions is critical.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is required.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to achieve results.
- Able to deal with ambiguity and successfully manage change will be critical.
- A dedicated team player who works well cross functionally.
- Solid computer skills including MS Office with focus on Excel.
- Experience in lean manufacturing is a strong asset.
