About the role

A career as a Senior Legal Advisor in the Client Relationship and Complaints Advisory Services – Legal Affairs, Capital Markets and Wealth Management team means acting as a strategic resource in complex files involving vulnerable individuals. This role allows you to make a positive impact on our organization through your legal expertise, analytical skills, and ability to support business lines in sensitive, high-stakes situations.

Your role

  • Advise, support, and guide business lines in their activities, particularly regarding vulnerable persons, powers of attorney, protection mandates, trusts, estates, and incapacity.

  • Analyze complaint files from legal, regulatory, and financial perspectives, assess risks (legal, regulatory, reputational), and provide tailored recommendations.

  • Negotiate amicable settlements in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Issue legal opinions and recommend actions to ensure the protection and growth of the firm in line with its business objectives.

  • Collaborate on regulatory investigations and litigation related to complaints.

  • Develop and maintain tools and training related to issues involving vulnerable persons.

Your team

Within the Legal Affairs sector of National Bank Financial (NBF), you’ll be part of a large team of 30 colleagues and report to the Assistant Vice President – Client Relationship and Complaints Advisory Services. You’ll work closely with the Senior Manager responsible for issues related to vulnerable persons. Our team stands out for its human approach, deep expertise, and commitment to protecting vulnerable clients.

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor’s degree in law and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec or the Chambre des notaires du Québec.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal issues related to vulnerable persons, incapacity, powers of attorney, estates, and trusts.
  • Experience or knowledge in securities law.

Languages:

English, French

Reason to require this language: you will need to serve clients who speak a language other than French regularly.
