Expected Salary Range : $116487 - $145609 Annually Target Variable Performance Pay: 15% The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Design and Construction the Manager, Design is accountable for planning and supervising resources to ensure quality distribution system designs are completed in a safe, reliable, cost effective and timely manner. Across a multi-portfolio environment, the incumbent is responsible to provide oversight and issue resolution on design compliance to construction standards and design policies, contractor management, field validation for construction, customer communications and escalations, material and inventory management, project financials, project updates and reporting

Coaches, develops and provides guidance to a team of Analysts, Technologists and Students, including performance management and development
-
Carries out safety responsibilities in accordance with current safety performance standards, and participates in the development of improved safety programs
-
Accountable for the lifecycle of design projects from initial design through construction, energization and closeout ensuring safety, timeliness, cost and quality targets achieved encourages an internal customer-focused culture

Oversees the completion of design work for Toronto Hydro’s capital program under planned, maintenance, and customer connections projects which includes:

Optimizes utilization of resources
-
Materials and equipment procurement
-
Project estimating and costing
-
Ensures compliance with engineering, legislation and regulatory standards and guidelines
-
Reviews and approves final design, Offers to Connect and estimates
-
Reviews and approves scope change recommendations and change requests
-
Contractor management
-
Manages cost performance and supports project variance analysis
-
Ensures effectiveness in pre and post construction meetings for both internally and externally executed project work
-
Addresses the emerging issues, internal, external customer inquires
-
Ensures Toronto Hydro’s work program targets are met through active planning, reporting, risk identification and mitigation
-
Mitigates and resolves project delivery issues as they arise with internal and external stakeholders that could impact work program attainment
-
Manages multiple processes and projects
-
Represents Toronto Hydro in meetings with external stakeholders and agencies as they relate to project design, coordination and construction
-
Effectively coordinates and communicates with other sections and departments
-
Contributes to the development of the departmental strategic plan
Requirements
- Post secondary education (Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering preferred)
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) in the province of Ontario
- Five (5) years of professional experience utility, electrical, civil, or mechanical design or operations environment; experience in the electrical utility industry involved in overhead and underground electrical distribution design and construction preferred
- Valid class G license required
- Three (3) - Five (5) years of progressive leadership, project leadership experience; direct supervisory experience preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
- Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
- Able to deal with multiple and varied work assignments and conflicting due dates
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrates ability to schedule and prioritize work and bring projects in on time and on budget.
- Demonstrates stakeholder and change management skills
- Experience with computer drafting applications, project management tools
- Significant experience of electrical and civil drawings for distribution systems
- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience in project tracking and reporting and financial management
- Knowledge of offers to connect, coordination agreements, third party contract management, contract administration
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, Collective Agreements, utility practices and City of Toronto By-Laws Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Models a customer focused approach in all decisions and actions

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
