The Opportunity

The South Bow Rates & Regulatory team supports the development, execution, and defense of pipeline tolls, cost of service models, and regulatory strategy across key assets.

This role provides a strong opportunity for a student with an economics, finance, or business background to gain hands on experience applying economic frameworks, quantitative analysis, and structured reasoning to real world regulatory and commercial questions.

The successful candidate will contribute directly to core regulatory and economic workstreams, including toll design, cost allocation, competitive analysis, and engagement with internal and external stakeholders. This role reports to the Manager, Rates & Regulatory.

Target start: June 1, 2026

Duration: 3 months (June–August)

Location: Calgary, Alberta

What You’ll Do

  • Support development and maintenance of cost‑of‑service and toll models, including cost allocation, revenue requirement build‑ups, and sensitivity analysis
  • Assist with economic and competitive analysis across pipeline systems (e.g., toll benchmarking, rate base comparisons, market positioning)
  • Analyze throughput, revenue, and cost data to identify trends, variances, and emerging risks or opportunities
  • Contribute to regulatory filings, information requests, and supporting documentation with clear, evidence‑based analysis
  • Assist in evaluating regulatory and commercial scenarios, including impacts on customers, utilization, and financial outcomes
  • Conduct research on regulatory precedents, tariff structures, and policy developments across jurisdictions (CER, FERC, AER)
  • Prepare clear, structured summaries and briefing materials for internal stakeholders, including senior management
  • Support cross‑functional collaboration with Finance, Commercial, and Operations teams to ensure alignment of assumptions and outputs
  • Document models, methodologies, and analytical approaches to support transparency and repeatability

Minimum Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Economics, Finance or Business
  • Enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution and returning for at least one additional semester after the work term.
  • Strong academic performance in quantitative and analytical coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in industrial organization, regulatory economics, or econometrics
  • Experience or exposure to applied economic analysis, including framing problems, identifying key drivers, and quantifying impacts
  • Strong quantitative skills with experience using Excel; familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, Power BI) considered an asset
  • Ability to work with large datasets and translate analysis into clear, structured insights
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex analysis clearly and concisely
  • High attention to detail and intellectual curiosity when working through complex problems
  • Interest in energy markets, infrastructure, and regulatory environments
