We are looking for a Data Analyst/Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing the collection, analysis, and reporting of data for Operations Excellence Management Systems – Processes. This includes leveraging Power BI and AI-powered analytics to transform raw data into actionable insights that drive improved performance. You will collaborate cross-functionally to provide audience specific level reporting to support data-driven decision making, with a strong focus on meeting the needs of our internal frontline employees.

Your role will serve as Suncor’s in house subject matter expert for our integrated systems - educating users on proper process, identifying, and managing opportunities for improvement with our business and technical partners, and playing a pivotal role on ensuring required systems and processes are properly set up for new processes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Post-secondary or equivalent training and experience in Data & Analytics. (e.g. Business Analytics, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics, or related technical equivalent work experience)
  • Strong knowledge of Oil and Gas industry and oil/gas datasets
  • Knowledge in SAP modules in Manage Maintenance, Materials Management, Procurement, Production Planning etc.
  • Hands-on experience and proficient with coding specifically with SQL, DAX functions
  • 3+ years of experience in data business analysis moderate to high complexity operations reporting
  • Proven experience in creation of Power BI dashboards, data visualization and reporting, as well as managing data sources, data cleaning and preparation
  • Ability to transform and integrate data for actionable insights for leadership and frontline employees
  • Strong critical thinking skills: able to look at numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to understand business problems from stakeholders to help solve with a focus on internal customer service
  • Experience with cloud data platforms like Databricks or Snowflake would be considered an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with operational leaders and frontline workers to understand data needs and translate findings into clear data insight visualizations
  • Act as business liaison to understand business process and investigate key data sources
  • Find raw data sources and transform into useable information to expose data for reporting needs
  • Create SQL queries and familiar with coding to integrate data to calculate moderate to complex metrics
  • Design, create and publish advanced Power BI dashboards to monitor and improve asset performance driving actions to consider for areas of improvement
  • Work with project management team to prioritize business and information needs to produce accurate, timely, and comprehensive reporting
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities for data collection, monitor data quality and analysis
  • Collaborating with other engineering disciplines, domain experts, internal and external customers
  • Contribute to data documentation and ensure adherence to data governance
  • Apply innovative and agile thinking towards continuous process improvements and system enhancements to increase the efficiency and impact of data function

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
