About the role

Room 8 Group is an end-to-end strategic partner in external game development. Working across all platforms, we provide creative and technical expertise across game development, technology, art, trailers, and QA for AAA and AA games. Since 2011, we’ve built creative partnerships with world-leading publishers such as Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Sony, Gameloft, Take2, EA, and more. The next great challenge is coming

We're looking for a 3D Environment Artist (Buildings & Props | UE5 Nanite) to help bring realistic, AAA-quality architectural environments to life. You'll be building modular buildings and props with clean, Nanite-ready topology, working across Maya/Blender, Substance Painter, ZBrush, and Unreal Engine 5 to create urban environments that feel authentic down to the last detail. If you love hard-surface modeling, architectural accuracy, and pushing modular pipelines to their full potential - this challenge is for you.

Superpowers you have

Modeling Strong understanding of realistic architecture and construction. Ability to create high-quality modular buildings for AAA environments. Excellent hard-surface modeling skills. Experience creating large-scale architectural assets. Experience working with high-poly geometry for Nanite workflows. Strong understanding of modular environment production. Clean topology suitable for Nanite. Efficient UV layout for unique, trim sheet, and tileable workflows. Experience creating reusable modular kits. Ability to maintain consistent texel density across assets.

Materials & Texturing

Strong understanding of PBR workflows. Ability to create realistic architectural materials. Experience using tileable textures, trim sheets, and unique materials. Experience working with layered materials is a plus. Understanding of material optimization.

Unreal Engine 5

Confident UE5 user. Experience with Nanite workflows. Ability to import, assemble, and validate assets in Unreal Engine. Basic understanding of World Partition. Experience with environment assembly is a plus. Basic level dressing experience is a plus.

Environment Production

Strong understanding of architectural proportions. Ability to accurately recreate real-world references. Experience creating realistic urban environments. Understanding of modular production pipelines. Good asset organization and naming practices.

Optimization

Although Nanite removes many traditional polygon limitations, the artist should understand: modularity reusable assets material optimization texture memory efficient asset organization Software Required: Maya or Blender Unreal Engine 5 Substance Painter ZBrush Photoshop Production Skills Ability to estimate tasks accurately. Work independently from concept or reference. Follow art direction while maintaining high quality. Strong communication skills. Experience with Perforce or Git. Ability to receive and implement feedback efficiently.

You’re a rockstar if you have

Substance Designer Marmoset Toolbag RizomUV Marvelous Designer Photogrammetry workflow. Procedural modeling. Experience with large modular city environments. Set dressing experience.

Expected Portfolio

The portfolio should demonstrate: AAA-quality realistic buildings. Large modular architectural kits. Realistic city environments similar to The Matrix Awakens, Marvel's Spider-Man, Cyberpunk 2077, or The Division. Strong material quality. Modular breakdowns. Wireframes and UV layouts where applicable. Final Unreal Engine renders.

Becoming part of Room 8 Group, you will

Create high-poly and low-poly models of the environment, hard-surface assets, and weapons for games based on provided concepts and references and according to established guidelines. Create optimal UV mapping and perform texture baking, including normal maps, AO, and other required maps. Create photorealistic textures. Create materials in Substance Designer. Work in game engines. Create high-quality realistic buildings, architectural assets, and props for AAA environments. Develop modular asset kits for large-scale urban environments. Create high-poly geometry suitable for Unreal Engine 5 Nanite workflows. Produce production-ready assets using unique textures, tileable materials, and trim sheets. Create clean UV layouts and maintain consistent texel density across assets. Import, assemble, and validate assets in Unreal Engine 5. Work with Nanite, World Partition, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and HLOD workflows. Create and apply realistic PBR materials and layered material setups. Assemble, dress, and refine environments according to concepts and real-world references. Optimize assets, materials, texture memory, and scene organization. Follow established naming conventions, folder structures, and production pipelines. Work independently while following the established art direction and quality standards. Collaborate with leads and other team members throughout the production process. Receive, address, and implement feedback efficiently. Identify and resolve common asset, material, and rendering issues in Unreal Engine 5. Use Perforce or Git for version control.
