The Position:
Are you a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) who:
- Is seeking the opportunity to use a range of skills, clinical reasoning, and creativity;
- Values client- and family-centred care while working with clients from ages 3 months to 18 years;

As an RRT in Inpatient Rehab and Complex Continuing Care (CCC), you will be an essential member of a child or youth’s care team during their rehabilitation journey.
Important to know:
- Within a 24-hour model of care, shifts may include daytime, evening, overnight, weekends and holidays.
- Qualified RRTs at all career stages are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provides respiratory care including: care and management of clients using mechanical ventilation, assessment and modification of mechanical ventilation in accordance with ventilation/weaning guidelines, airway management, and intubation and extubation
- Continually evaluates the status of clients requiring respiratory care, and suggests interventions to maximize such care
- Utilizes the teaching/learning process to provide education, both formal and informal, to clients/families, colleagues, students, and other professionals within the organization and externally
- Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team
- Responds to all STAT (Code Blue) calls
- Performs regularly scheduled on-call duties
- Demonstrates therapeutic relationships with clients and caregivers
- Adheres to core principles of Client- and Family-Centered Care, which is demonstrated through: collaboration and information sharing; cooperation and participation; and respect with families, service agencies and the community at large
- Follows direction of and suggests improvement to hospital policies and procedures
- Identifies and resolves equipment problems or potential equipment problems and evaluates and tests new equipment
- Identifies and implements mechanisms of professional growth through continuing education (e.g. Connected Care training)
- Practices according to organizational policies and standards for practice as set out by the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
- Documents in clients’ electronic health records as required, following hospital and regulatory college policies
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
- Membership in C.S.R.T. and/or R.T.S.O. is preferred
- Current BCLS certificate—Basic Rescuer
- Experience in critical care, respiratory rehab, complex continuing care, and/or home care
- Experience in chronic respiratory care/rehabilitation an asset
- Experience with children with neuromuscular conditions (e.g. DMD) preferred
- Demonstrated functional written and verbal English language skills to communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interprofessional care team required
- Demonstrated ability to deal with a changing environment and client population
- Proven ability to independently take initiative and the ability to function effectively as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team
