The City of Medicine Hat is seeking a Systems Analyst – Operational Technology (OT) to support and maintain technology systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient municipal operations. This role supports OT environments that underpin critical infrastructure and operational services across the organization. As part of the Operational Technology team, the Systems Analyst works closely with subject matter experts and City employees to implement, administer, and protect technology systems that support operational departments. This position plays a key role in ensuring system availability, data integrity, cybersecurity, and strong customer service in OT environments.

The Systems Analyst is an on-site position located in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Relocation Assistance is available for the successful candidate. Your key responsibilities

  • Performs technical analysis, support, planning, design and implementation of Operational Technology solutions.
  • Recommends and performs preventative maintenance activities to ensure system and data integrity within OT environments.
  • Participates in the planning and delivery of support, maintenance and development of solutions and systems that are readily available while maintaining system and data integrity.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation for effective and efficient delivery of technical services.
  • Recommends opportunities for processes and technical architecture improvements.
  • Efficient and effective handling of customer support, project responsibilities and change requests.
  • Works collaboratively with users to identify, analyze and assist with the resolution of technology problems and needs with a focus on OT system reliability and security.

What you bring

  • Working knowledge of Database Technologies; MSSQL, Postgres.
  • Working knowledge of Scripting languages: SQL, Bash, Python, Powershell.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical support, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Microsoft Operating Systems.
  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure Technologies: networking, firewall, servers, storage, backup administration, virtualization, active directory on-prem and hybrid EntraID.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity technologies and best practices, including EDR administration, vulnerability and patch management, hardening, monitoring and incident response.
  • Ability to manage and document technology deployments.
  • Analytical thinking for solving business and technology challenges.
  • Effective collaboration, planning, and self-management.
  • Experience with networks, servers, storage, virtualization, cloud, and unified communications.
  • Experience in OT, industrial control systems (ICS), or critical infrastructure environments is an asset.
  • Familiarity with AD services and relevant cybersecurity practices.
  • Knowledge of Environmental and Occupational HealthSafety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma from a recognized post- secondary or technical institution in computer technology or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in a similar Systems Analyst position.
  • An equivalent combination of management approved training, and education may be considered.
