CA Manufacturing Engineer

About the role

The Manufacturing Engineer will provide engineering support to the manufacturing plant in the areas of work cell design, secondary processing, new equipment, upgrade existing installations and support all aspects of new product development and plant modernization, particularly in the manufacturing area.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing department in the areas of troubleshooting, process improvement, reduced cycle time, and scrap reduction

  • Provide technical support to the maintenance department in the areas of troubleshooting, training, and reducing maintenance downtime

  • Focuses on optimizing manufacturing performance and supports new products.

  • Provides expertise in executing all aspects of assigned projects, including initial study, design, equipment evaluation and selection

  • Develops and implements capital projects, and provides technical support for the plant, particularly in the areas of mould design, mechanical design and process equipment

  • Identifies, leads and supports cost saving initiatives and equipment standardization

  • Consults with major equipment suppliers in finalizing equipment/system proposals, resolves technical design details and issues purchase orders/contracts on approved projects

  • Validates all major equipment in supplier’s facility to ensure satisfactory performance, prior to shipment

  • Collaborates with production personnel, contractors, and engineering personnel to ensure technical issues are resolved and installations are completed on schedule

  • Provides/creates training manuals for new systems

  • Communicates changes/improvements made to equipment

  • Utilizes ERP as required

  • Supports QMS implementation and ongoing Continuous Improvement

  • Wears any equipment, protective devices or clothing required by the Company; report to a manager or supervisor any known missing or defective equipment, protective device or known workplace hazard that may be dangerous to any worker and do not use or operate any equipment or work in a way that may endanger himself/herself or any other employee

  • Completes all other duties as assigned

  • Comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and third-party relevant requirements in a continuing effort to improve pollution prevention strategies.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a production manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard production equipment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs; talk or hear.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Salary, primarily 8 hours/day, Monday to Friday. However additional hours may be required occasionally, including after-hours support for a 24/7 manufacturing operation.

Travel:

Occasionally - ability to travel within and outside of Canada.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Applied Science, or Engineering Technologist diploma or 5+ years experience
  • Reads and understands technical drawings, technical bulletins, equipment manuals. Familiar with relevant legislation and standards, including ESA, M.O.L. regulations and CSA safety standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, proficient in the English language, and able to lead and influence others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Solidworks, AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of ergonomic assessments required

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Electric / pneumatic / hydraulic controls experience preferred
  • Project management experience preferred
