About the role

The Sanitation Supervisor will be responsible for the development, implementation, training and enforcement of the sanitation program. Responsible for the management and development of the sanitation team by coordinating activities in order to keep the facility in a clean and sanitary matter. Ensure adherence to Work Safe rules and regulations, GMP’s, Food Safety and Quality guidelines. Support to achieve departmental and company goals and objectives and budget targets.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Highly engaged in all duties pertaining to the sanitation program including: Ensuring after cleaning and sanitation procedures all work areas and equipment are operating properly, be familiar and able to read and understand SDS and product labels, be familiar with the proper use of cleaning chemicals and utensils prior to use
  • Completes facility inspections by performing safety and sanitation inspections, documenting nonconformance’s, distributing results to management, assist in developing corrective action plans and ensuring nonconformance’s have been corrected
  • Develops, implements and monitors Master Sanitation Schedule for all areas of the facility. Measures compliance to the MSS for all areas, enforces compliance to the MSS and reports trends to management
  • Manages the sanitation program by reviewing, maintaining and revising SOP’s
  • Manages the uniform program with Cintas, including adding new employees, removing exited staff, and keeping the roster updated at all times.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory of all cleaning supplies and utensils
  • Assist in all 3rd Party audits (i.e. BRC, Customer, etc.) in order to facilitate the readiness of the facility and the department and inspection process flow
  • Trains applicable sanitation, production and management personnel on the requirements of the MSS and Sanitation program
  • Develops, implements and monitors the Pest Control Program. Lead with regards to the 3rd Party PCO and ensure compliance to the requirements set out in the BRC Standard. Trains applicable sanitors and monitors, enforces regulatory requirements related to the pest control program (i.e. licensing, etc.). Lead with regards to PCO recommendations and develops corrective action plans and ensures nonconformance’s have been corrected and signed off by the 3rd Party PCO
  • Investigates employee injury and accidents by conducting accident investigations, coordinating corrective action measures, reviewing injury trends, developing preventative measures, coordinating efforts with management and providing training to sanitors when needed
  • Provides directions for the departmental staff by auditing departmental programs, ensuring work is completed as required, prioritizing departmental duties, ensuring resources are directed correctly, coordinating and identifying training needs on Alchemy, tracking employee performance and attendance and providing disciplinary action as needed.
  • Manages the budget by researching previous budget expenditures, itemizing manpower and material requirements to meet facility operational needs, developing budget meeting operational need and auditing budget performance
  • Responsible for the Food Safety and Quality Program
  • Be the lead with regards to Safety and understand and follow all safety procedures
  • Ensure all relevant Sanitation and Pest Control SOP’s, SOP’s and supporting documentation are on SharePoint
  • Working knowledge of sanitation scheduling and utilize Payworks to schedule and approve the sanitation teams’ hours
  • Utilize Workday with regards to approving vacation requests, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Utilize SAP, Gensuite, Poka, Gemba and Redzone programs and able to personally lead and coach lean process improvement.
  • Perform other duties and/or tasks as instructed by QA Manager

Minimum Job Requirements: Education/Certifications:

  • Must have high school diploma or an equivalent
  • Lockout/Tagout certification
  • Power jack, electrical hand jack and forklift certification

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 - 10 years related work experience required
  • Experience and knowledge in food sanitation operations, procedures, chemicals and program standards, preferably in a general food and/or manufacturing industry or bakery environment.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of HACCP, GMP’s and BRC
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills to effectively supervise the sanitation team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must understand importance of maintaining a clean and sanitary environment
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision
  • Must be able to perform repetitive and physically demanding work
  • Must be computer literate, able to interface with PCs and understand all software programs used within the facility
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Must have good analytical and reasoning skills

Work Schedule:

  • Must be flexible with regards to work schedule (Day/Night)
  • 1 week/month will come in and cover the graveyard shift to work with and support the graveyard team
  • Will work the graveyard shift to provide the initial onboarding and training of all new sanitation team members
  • Must be able to come in under short notice (i.e. emergency situations)

Supervisory Responsibilities: Work requires supervising and monitoring work performance through the assistance of QA Manager and Management. Includes making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness and realigning work and staffing assignments as needed.

Working Conditions And Physical Effort:

  • Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes due to cleaning chemicals, darkness and/or noise. Seasonal exposure to weather elements includes, but are not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness and humidity.
  • Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks such as working around mechanical equipment, forklifts, chemical hazards, and electrical hazards.
  • Position requires the ability to be on your feet for a long-extended part of your day, moving equipment up to 50 pounds; reaching and kneeling on a daily basis.
  • Requires the ability to see, hear and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.
  • Personal protective equipment, as defined by C.H. Guenther and Son, will be provided

Is involved in decision making or providing approval for purchases, products or projects.
