Wastewater Collection

Maintenance has up to three openings for Labourer 3 (Service Maintenance) positions at the Aurum site in Edmonton, Alberta.

  • 1 permanent full-time position
  • 2 temporary full-time positions (up to 11 months)

 

As a Labourer 3, you’ll play a key role in delivering excellent customer service that reflects the EPCOR brand. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing sewer service investigations
  • Locating services and removing obstructions
  • Inspecting catch basins and manholes to ensure public safety
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions, year-round

What you’d be responsible for

 

A Day in the Life of a Labourer 3 (Service Maintenance)

 

As a Labourer 3 working out of the Aurum site, your day is hands-on, dynamic, and focused on keeping Edmonton’s wastewater systems running smoothly. Here’s what a typical day might look like:

 

  • Start your shift by coordinating with your crew and taking on a lead hand role—directing, instructing, and actively participating in daily tasks.

  • Head into the field to clean and televise wastewater collection assets from residential and commercial locations.

  • Conduct precise sewer trouble inspections to identify and resolve service issues.

  • Perform detailed inspections of manholes and catch basins, capturing notes, photos, and completing inspection reports to support maintenance decisions.

  • Provide accurate service locates to support structural repairs and investigations.

  • Submit all video inspections and paperwork at the end of your shift for technical review.

  • Set up and take down equipment safely, ensuring the worksite is clean and secure upon completion.

  • Report any equipment issues promptly and log deficiencies using systems like IVARA and Geofit.

  • Communicate with your Team Leader to escalate issues or provide updates as needed.

  • Guide and mentor

    new or less experienced Labourers on your crew.

  • Ability to w

    ork rotational shifts and be available for standby duties as required to meet operational needs.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

What You Bring to the Role

 

As the successful candidate for the Labourer 3 (Service Maintenance) position, you bring a combination of experience, skills, and behaviours that support safe, effective, and high-quality work in the field.

 

  • High school diploma (GED or equivalent level of secondary education).
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in Service Maintenance. Related experience in other areas of Wastewater Collection may also be considered.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a coaching and mentoring environment. You’re comfortable giving and receiving feedback and motivating your team.
  • Solid understanding of EPCOR’s safety policies, procedures, work practices, and standards—including proper use and care of PPE.
  • Proven ability to operate equipment safely, skillfully, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Alberta Environment Wastewater Collection Certification – Level II is considered an asset. Candidates working toward Level I certification will also be considered (supporting documentation may be required).
  • Intermediate computer skills, including experience with IVARA, GeoFIT, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Willingness and ability to complete all required training within Water Services.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain an EPCOR Driver’s Permit.
    • Driving record must have no more than 6 demerits at the time of hire. Please note: prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours may result in non-selection, regardless of current demerits.
    • A current driver’s abstract may be requested if one is not already on file
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions across all seasons, with frequent vehicle entry/exit at various industrial, commercial, and institutional locations.
  • Physically capable of performing medium to heavy work, including lifting materials up to 50 pounds. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug/alcohol testing may be required.
