This role applies engineering knowledge, lean principles, and data analysis to identify and eliminate waste, enhance workflows, and support production teams. With a strong presence on the shop floor, the Manufacturing Engineer I plays a hands-on role in solving problems, optimizing space and tooling, and ensuring documentation and standards are in place. The position also contributes to a culture of continuous improvement and is expected to support technical needs related to tooling, manufacturing instructions, and root cause analysis.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. What You’ll Do

  • Provide engineering support to cutting, fitting, welding, outfitting, and other production stages, ensuring optimized workflows.
  • Support identifying and eliminating waste in manufacturing processes using lean methodologies such as Six Sigma and value stream mapping.
  • Perform time studies, establish and maintain manufacturing time standards, and analyze production metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Calculate workspace requirements and develop strategies to maximize space utilization while ensuring compliance with ergonomic and safety standards.
  • Support in designing, creating, and maintaining tooling, jigs, and fixtures to improve efficiency and accuracy in manufacturing processes. Work collaboratively with the team to design concepts using AutoCAD or other modeling software.
  • Support in creating and maintain clear and detailed manufacturing instructions, standard operating procedures, and routing documents.
  • Investigate non-conformance issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions with follow-ups to prevent recurrence.
  • Support production teams, trade workers, and managers to ensure seamless communication and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Spend approximately 70% of the time on the production line to observe processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and support teams.
  • Be available to work afternoon shifts as required to meet production schedules.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, driving initiatives that enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet organizational goals.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Registered as an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) with the appropriate provincial regulatory body.
  • Up to 2 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, with preference given to candidates with shipbuilding experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Yellow or Green Belt) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar 2D/3D modeling software.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and present technical concepts.
  • Ability to support cross-functional initiatives and inspire teams to adopt innovative solutions.
  • Flexible and responsive to changing production demands and priorities.
  • Demonstrated perseverance in supporting projects to successful completion under challenging conditions.
  • Knowledge of Canadian engineering standards, codes, and regulations applicable to manufacturing and shipbuilding.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations in industrial environments.
  • Physical ability to navigate the production floor, including standing, walking, and climbing stairs as needed.
