Role Overview
The Yard & Materials Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the yard, ensuring materials, equipment, and finished goods are organized, handled safely, and moved efficiently to support manufacturing, fabrication and finishing activities.
This role is primarily hands-on, operating a forklift to move materials and products throughout the yard and workshop areas, ensuring safe, efficient material flow. It plays an important part in maintaining an organized and safe work environment while supporting production schedules and operational efficiency. The Yard & Materials Coordinator works closely with Fabrication, Finishing, Digital Planning, Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Logistics teams to help ensure materials are received, stored, and moved accurately and on time.
This opportunity has been created as part of our continued growth and expansion and will play a key role in supporting the development of our state-of-the-art Glulam manufacturing facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Yard Operations
- Carry out day-to-day yard activities including material handling, storage, and movement of equipment and products.
- Work closely with Job Leads, the Fabrication Director, Finishing Manager, the Manufacturing and operations teams to coordinate the movement of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Support a safe, organized, and efficient yard environment to meet fabrication, manufacturing, and project timelines.
- Responsible for loading and unloading incoming and outgoing materials, equipment, and finished products.
- Maintain clear and organized staging areas for materials, work-in-progress, and completed items.
- Operate forklifts, loaders, and other equipment to move materials throughout the yard and workshop areas.
Packaging & Shipping Support
- Assist with preparing and packaging finished wood products for shipment.
- Ensure products are properly protected from damage, moisture, and environmental exposure during land and sea transport.
- Work with production and logistics teams to confirm items are packaged, labeled, and staged correctly for dispatch.
Inventory & Material Support
- Work closely with the Inventory & Receiving Coordinator to support material receiving, inspection, and documentation activities.
- Assist in verifying incoming shipments against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Communicate any discrepancies, including damaged or missing materials, to the Inventory & Receiving Coordinator.
- Flag low inventory levels to the Supply Chain team as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to company safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of materials and equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections of yard equipment and report maintenance requirements.
- Promote safe lifting practices, traffic flow, and equipment operation within the yard.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve yard organization, efficiency, and workflow.
- Support the development of scalable yard processes as the business grows.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Attributes
- Minimum 5 years of experience in yard operations, material handling or related field.
- Experience working in manufacturing, construction, fabrication, or industrial environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of material handling, inventory management, and yard organization.
- Experience operating forklifts, loaders, or other heavy equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
Schedule and Working Conditions
- Ability to work 7:30-5:15, Monday – Thursday and every second Friday from 7:30-4:00, with a 15-minute paid coffee break and a 30-minute unpaid lunch each day.
- Ability to work on-site at Spearhead headquarters.
- Ability to stand and move around the shop for work shifts.
- Ability to work in a workshop with exposure to dust, chemicals, and noise using required PPE, as needed.
- Ability to move and carry materials up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
Compensation
- Pay range is $65k-$75k commensurate with experience and qualifications

The Spearhead manufacturing facility is located on the west arm of Kootenay Lake in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. The 40,000 sq.ft. facility houses full-service millwork and timberframe shops featuring CNC manufacturing and timber milling equipment along with design and administration offices.
Spearhead has the unique ability to supply a wide range of building components from structural timber and steel, to panelized wall and roof assemblies, millwork and finish materials. Spearhead collaborates with industry-leading professionals including designers, architects and engineers as well as a host of other consultants across North America with whom they share passion for and dedication to their work. Spearhead also maintains key relationships with many specialized fabricators and unique suppliers to provide the wide variety of products required for its projects.
All projects are developed using BIM software to achieve fabrication-level digital models which interface directly with CNC machinery. This information is shared with project partners to review connections and coordinate site-built and prefabricated components.
Wherever possible, structural and architectural components are designed, engineered, and pre-manufactured parallel with site construction, allowing for just-in-time delivery and compressed construction schedules. Keeping the production process in a controlled environment at our facility greatly enhances quality, enables cost control and promotes manufacturing efficiency.
