Position Description

We are currently looking for a Finance Systems Specialist to join our Financial Accounting and Reporting Team. In this position, you will report to the Manager, Finance, and you will be responsible for supporting the financial and reporting activities of Corporate Finance at the Hospital for Sick Children. This position will provide a unique opportunity to perform finance-related tasks while interacting with key elements of our finance system, working closely with all Finance departments and Information Technology contacts across the Hospital. Here's What You'll Get To Do:

  • Maintain Finance's PeopleSoft system, particularly as it relates to the structure of our financial statements (chart of accounts, departmental tree hierarchy, etc.).
  • Maintain the security and access privileges of our finance systems, including processing changes to user access rights and chart of accounts across the entire organization.
  • Conduct the monthly close of the finance system focused on system-related tasks. This includes the various subledgers and other systems that interface into the Hospital's financial system.
  • Conduct other month-end close activities including the preparation and coordination of the month-end schedule, various journal entries, financial report generation, account reconciliations and variance analyses.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations while maintaining bank records, preparing related journal entries and responding to queries from stakeholders on the timing and processing of transactions.
  • Work in collaboration with finance teams to complete the year-end close process. This includes coordination and preparation of annual audit working papers and providing supporting documentation.
  • Monitor departmental email inbox, by processing requests from others across finance on the tasks listed above.
  • Maintain and update a library of training materials on our finance system for others across finance to access.
  • Other adhoc duties as required.

Here's What You'll Need:

Essential Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Data Science, or Information Management.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a large, complex organization, which includes exposure to finance systems.
  • Previous experience working with large ERP systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with department managers, external auditors and all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating professionalism, sound-decision making and high-quality customer service.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, organized, proactive, results-oriented, and able to deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to working in team-based environments.
  • Highly computer literate and proficient with the MS office suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Adherence to confidentiality policy for sensitive financial and clinical information.
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

Assets

  • Experience with PeopleSoft is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within healthcare or the public sector
  • Knowledge of other systems/tools such as Adaptive Insights, Qlikview and/or PowerBI
