About the role
The Compliance Analyst, High Risk Accounts is responsible for ensuring that Bow Valley Credit Union (BVCU) maintains full compliance with regulatory requirements relating to money services businesses (MSBs), virtual assets, and cryptocurrency-related accounts. This role provides subject-matter expertise in anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), sanctions, and risk assessment, while supporting business operations and member relationships. The position supports risk management, conducts monitoring and reporting, and serves as a resource for staff and members to ensure the safe and compliant growth of BVCU.
Key Areas & Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Monitoring
- Monitor MSB and crypto-related member accounts to ensure adherence to FINTRAC, CUDGC, and other applicable regulations
- Conduct enhanced due diligence and risk assessments for high-risk accounts
- Ensure policies, procedures, and controls for MSB and crypto compliance are up to date with evolving regulatory requirements
- Review and file required regulatory reports (e.g., suspicious transaction reports, virtual currency transaction reports)
- Responsible for FINTRACT Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs), including the detailed itemization of each transaction associated with the suspicion, ensuring full compliance with the FINTRAC AML regulations and internal reporting procedures
- Open Business Accounts for MSBs
Risk Management
- Support the development and ongoing management of BVCU’s risk appetite for MSB and crypto-related activities
- Identify trends and emerging risks in the virtual asset and fintech space
- Recommend controls to mitigate exposure and ensure operational integrity
Internal Support & Training
- Advise frontline staff, lending teams, and operations on MSB/crypto account requirements
- Provide training and awareness programs on AML/CTF compliance related to MSBs and virtual assets
- Collaborate with System Support to implement monitoring tools and technology solutions
Member & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory exams, audits, and inquiries related to MSB and crypto accounts
- Support members engaged in MSB or crypto businesses by ensuring onboarding and account management requirements are clearly communicated and met
Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Business, Finance, Compliance, or related field.
- 3–5 years of compliance or risk management experience in financial services; experience with MSB or crypto/virtual assets strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of FINTRAC and PCMLTFA guidelines, and other AML/CTF frameworks
- CAMS, CFCS, or equivalent compliance certification is an asset
- Analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and recommend controls
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to balance regulatory requirements and member service

THE FINE PRINT:
- This position is on-site
- Working Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Must be bondable and have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
