International Partnerships Lead Office of the Registrar – International CUPE, Regular, Full-time
Internal applicants from CUPE Local 3799 will be given priority consideration. Reporting to the Associate Registrar, International (ARI), with functional supervision under the International Student Administrative Coordinator, the International Partnerships Lead (IPL) is a key member of the International team and plays a central role in advancing University of Northern British Columbia’s (UNBC’s) international recruitment and partnership objectives.
The IPL requires a high degree of adaptability, judgement, and self-direction, along with strong organizational, relationship-building, communication, and creative thinking skills. The IPL develops, manages, and sustains international agent relationships and institutional partnerships that support UNBC’s internationalization and recruitment goals.
The International Partnerships Lead works independently while collaborating closely with International and Office of the Registrar colleagues, academic departments, faculty, and external partners. The IPL acts as UNBC’s primary subject-matter expert on international partnerships, under the authority of the Provost and Registrar.
Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to:
- Developing and implementing short-term and long-term strategies and targets for the recruitment, assessment, and management of international agents and partners, in consultation with internal and external partners at the community, regional, provincial, national, and international levels;
- Initiating, renewing, and supporting international agent and partner contracts in collaboration with the University Registrar and Associate Registrar, International;
- Managing, tracking, and supporting relationships with international agencies and partners, ensuring compliance with institutional standards and the BC Education Quality Assurance (EQA) Code of Practice;
- Creating, maintaining, and updating agent policies, contracts, agreements, and related documentation, ensuring a high standard of professionalism, accountability, and transparency;
- Leading the establishment, renewal, and management of international institutional agreements and partnerships, including student exchange agreements;
- Collaborating with partner institutions to explore and develop joint degree programs, short-term programs, and other initiatives that support UNBC’s academic and strategic priorities;
- Representing UNBC in international travel, events, and networking activities to establish and cultivate new partnerships and recruitment opportunities;
- Coordinating agent commission processing and partner payments in collaboration with the Registrar Services Assistants (RSA) team and Enrolment Services Coordinator, including monitoring tasks and providing support when required;
- Tracking agent commissions and partner payments to ensure financial accuracy, timeliness, and budget compliance;
- Acting as a primary point of contact for resolving issues and problem-solving between UNBC departments and external agents or partners;
- Coordinating the planning, preparation, distribution, and publication of agent- and partner-related materials and deliverables;
- Developing, in collaboration with the ARI, an annual international partnerships timeline and ensuring its communication, implementation, and monitoring;
- Maintaining an accurate inventory of international partnerships and agreements, and reporting annually to the Registrar;
- Working closely with Faculty Deans, Program Chairs, and academic departments on international partnership initiatives and opportunities;
- Developing, maintaining, and delivering recruitment and partnership training modules for agents, partners, International staff, and Office of the Registrar staff; and Ensuring confidentiality, privacy, and records management practices are followed in accordance with university policies and legislative requirements, including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
Qualifications The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Business, Business Administration, or a related field, preferably with an international focus. This educational background is important to support a strong understanding of business principles, market research, sales, branding, and partnership development within a global context. Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCIC) or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) certification is an asset but not required.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of five years of progressive experience working with international markets and international students, preferably within a post-secondary education environment. This experience must include at least two years in a role requiring a high degree of collaboration and regular engagement with internal and external interest holders. Direct experience working with international agents and partner organizations is strongly preferred.
Previous experience in a customer service–oriented environment is essential, as the role requires professionalism, responsiveness, and sound judgement when addressing complex and often competing needs. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to anticipate challenges, assess risks, develop effective solutions, and evaluate potential outcomes and impacts within a dynamic and evolving international context.
Because the International Partnerships Lead works closely with prospective and admitted students, international agents, and partner institutions, the candidate must demonstrate a well-rounded understanding of the post-secondary student experience. They must be able to communicate accurately, authentically, and confidently about UNBC, university life, and academic pathways, and to represent the institution with credibility and integrity.
The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding communication skills and the ability to engage respectfully and professionally at an elevated level with international agents, partners, and internal and external interest holders. Communications may be politically sensitive, time-sensitive, or complex in nature and may involve specialized terminology, diplomacy, and the presentation of detailed processes or technical issues.
Strong intercultural communication skills are essential. The candidate must be able to translate complex ideas into clear, accessible, and culturally appropriate language, both orally and in writing. The ability to navigate differing or competing institutional goals, maintain constructive relationships, and uphold clear boundaries, expectations, and accountability is critical to success in this role.
An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered
Salary This position has been classified at a Grade 11. The annual salary range for this position is $ 77,768.60 to $ 80,990.00 and the normal starting salary will be $ 77,768.60.
