About the role

OVERVIEW

Registered Nurses possess a defined body of advanced knowledge, clinical skills, procedural skills and professional attitudes, which are directed to effective patient and family-centered care. In serving as the leader of the Coordinated Care Team, Registered Nurses have a pivotal role in care planning, coordination and delivery and in ensuring high level functioning of the health care team. RNs apply both their clinical knowledge as well as their leadership skills to collect and interpret information,make appropriate nursing clinical decisions, and carry out therapeutic nursing interventions. Their care is characterized by up-to-date, ethical, and resource-efficient clinical practice as well as with effective communication in partnership with patients and families and clinical teams.

The Registered Nurse in the Nursing Resource Team must have a wide range of nursing skills related to general medical-surgical nursing. The RN must have demonstrated leadership skills, excellent critical thinking and the ability to adapt to unpredictable situations. In order to serve the wide organizational needs the RN must be willing to cross-train to specialty areas as required. This position will primarily support Medicine and Surgery Units, staff may be assigned to work within other areas of the organization that are currently served by the NRT including off-site clinical settings

EDUCATION

  • Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Registration issued by the CNO.
  • Maintains competence relative to current practice.
  • Recent experience and evidence of recent related continuing education in medical-surgical nursing

an asset.

  • Training or education in Critical Care an asset.

  • Current BLS required.

  • ACLS an asset.

  • CNA certification an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be prepared to work in all Health Services within the organization, including off-site clinical settings.

  • 2 years of recent medical/surgical experience in the last 3 years.

  • Experience or interest in Critical Care an asset.

  • **The Hospital, based on operational needs, may provide education for the certificate in Critical Care to applicants who demonstrate competence in the remaining skills and qualifications below**

  • Strong leadership skills and experience taking the lead in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement plan of care including independent and interdependent nursing functions.

  • Demonstrated ability to participate in unit quality initiatives and measurements.

  • Demonstrated understanding of accountability based practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide care for patients with respiratory disease and interventions, i.e., tracheostomy, suctioning, chest auscultation,arterial blood gas interpretation.

  • Previous experience with the following patient populations -geriatric, medical, oncology, neurology, diabetic would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of chest tube care and care of thoracic surgery patients would be an asset.

  • Successful completion of a physical assessment course an asset.

  • Knowledge of TPN/Central line management an asset.

  • Must be certified in the following: IV / Blood Procurement, Patient Controlled Analgesia patient care, TPN/Central and PICC line management, Ostomy Management /Teaching, Wound care

management (complex).

  • Computer skills and demonstrates motivation to pursue educational goals.
  • Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of the hospital.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Good work and attendance record required.
