About the role

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) seeks a highly organized and analytical professional to interpret data from various sources, with a primary focus on researching, identifying, collecting, and analyzing open-source information and intelligence, including social media content—to assess its relevance to demonstrations, events, marches, union disputes, and dignitary visits. The role requires a strong understanding of the local impacts of geopolitical events within the Edmonton region. It also involves developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners to support effective issue assessment and response.

Specific responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Intelligence pertaining to public safety and situational awareness to assist in eliminating or reducing impact on the community and provide a safe environment for events/demonstrations to take place.
  • Staying current on municipal, provincial, national, and geopolitical issues that may impact the Edmonton Police Service and/or the City of Edmonton.
  • Responsible for the continuous collection, integration, and analysis of open-source intelligence (OSINT) from a diverse array of publicly accessible sources, including social media, traditional and non-traditional websites. Duties include verifying the accuracy, credibility, and timeliness of the data and sources to support the production of intelligence reports.
  • Provide publicly available open-source reports to support operational data analysis, planning, deployment, and resource allocation as needed.
  • Work closely with team members to build and update intelligence profiles, create and disseminate regular open-source bulletins, and assist with training the Police Liaison Team.
  • Regular meetings with external and internal intelligence partners to share and expedite the flow of intelligence and situational awareness as it pertains to various events.
  • Produce a detailed report of findings for distribution as authorized.
  • Responsible for supporting the assigned unit by identifying existing or evolving public safety concerns and trends with the use of publicly available on-line open-source intelligence.
  • Contribute to the intake process by entering and managing data across spreadsheets, logs, and dashboards for timely information tracking.

Qualifications:

  • A Security Management Certificate would be considered an asset
  • Open SourceTraining from a recognized law enforcement training provider or equivalent would be considered an asset.
  • Strategic or Tactical Analysis Course would be considered an asset.
  • Intelligence Training would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and skill in computer programs and intelligence software including databases.
  • Social media courses
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Ability to present information to internal and external partners

Hours of Work: 40.00 hours per week, Monday – Friday, subject to compressed hours of work program.

Salary Range: Job Level: 21B, Salary Grade: 024, $39.97 - $49.94 (Hourly), $3,198.20 -$3,995.70 (Bi-Weekly), $83,474.06 - $104,287.25 (Annually).

  • A completed Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a discipline related to the position, equivalent as described.
  • Related fields of study may include: political science, psychology, international relations, intelligence studies, strategic studies, criminal justice, law enforcement studies, Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), or other similar fields.
  • 2 years’ directly related working experience is required. Related experience may include experience in an intelligence or related role, such as: security intelligence, criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national security, special operations, economic or research security, security and security risk management, or other similar roles.

Opportunity Concept Level: 21C, Salary Grade: 019, $33.31 - $38.01(Hourly), $2,665.20 - $3,041.40 (Bi-Weekly), $69,561.72 - $79,381.58 (Annually).
