Opportunity

Locum Registe****red **Veterinary Technician (RVT):**What if you could create a brighter future for animals in need and the people who love them? We are seeking an RVT with a passion for shelter medicine to assist in shelter animal care.

The Ontario SPCA operates two spay/neuter clinics, a wellness clinic, SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services unit, and hosts MASH-style clinics to bring routine care and spay/neuter services to underserved communities. We also find loving homes for thousands of animals each year at our animal centres across the province – animals who depend on the compassion of a veterinary care team to bring them back to health so they can get their second chance. This position, both challenging and rewarding, is suitable for those who love to work in a fast-paced and structured environment.

A Typical Day

  • Welcome clients and their pets.
  • Assisting veterinarian with animals before, during, and following surgery as well as assisting them with wellness procedures.
  • Preparing surgical equipment, administering, and monitoring anaesthetics and post-surgery clean up.
  • Handling, restraining, and caring for animals undergoing treatment and surgery using low stress and fear free techniques.
  • Preparing and administering medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian
  • Monitoring the recovery of animals’ post-surgery.
  • Providing exceptional care for our animals during their stay.
  • General administrative duties including booking appointments.
  • General house-keeping duties and sterilizing of hospital/medical equipment.

Set up For Success

  • Validation of being a Registered Veterinary Technician
  • 2-3 years of surgical experience required.
  • 1-4 years of experience as a registered veterinary technician, preferably within a high-volume animal clinic
  • Passion for shelter medicine
  • Administrative experience an asset
  • Available to work weekdays
  • Valid G drivers’ license with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract
