Position Scope/Summary We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Switchboard/Switchgear Controls Programmer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the development, testing, and commissioning of control systems used in low and medium voltage switchboards and switchgear assemblies. This role involves programming PLCs, HMIs, and protective relays, integrating SCADA systems, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards such as UL891, UL1558, ANSI, and IEC. This position works Day Shift: 7:00 Am- 3:30 PM.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and develop control logic for switchboards and switchgear systems, including PLC/HMI programming and relay configuration.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot devices such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schweitzer (SEL), GE Multilin, and other control and protection equipment.
- Create and modify ladder logic, function block, and structured text programs to support system functions and customer requirements.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Develop control panel layouts and assist with component selection.
- Create SOO (Sequence of Operations), conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), and commissioning of switchgear systems at customer sites as needed.
- Work closely with project managers, electrical designers, and field technicians to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.
- Maintain documentation, version control, and detailed records of software and hardware configurations.
- Provide technical support to customers, field service personnel, and internal departments.
Qualitifications/Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of experience in programming and configuring control systems for switchboards, switchgear, or industrial electrical equipment.
- Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric).
- Experience with protective relay configuration (e.g., SEL, GE, ABB).
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, and Ethernet/IP.
- Strong understanding of power distribution systems and electrical safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
