Reports to and works under the direction of the School Principal or his/her designate. Responsible for the safety
of elementary school students using designated school cross walks while travelling to or from school.
Qualifications Completion of Grade 10, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and vehicle owner/drivers. Ability to use good judgement when confronted with difficult situations. Knowledge of and the ability to apply basic road safety rules. Physically capable of performing the duties of the position. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Knowledge of WCB and WHMIS regulations. Safe work practices. Some positions may require the knowledge of a language other than English.
Duties
- Supervises students using designated crosswalks ensuring their safety. Provides direction and guidance in following traffic safety rules.
- Monitors student observance of traffic rules. Directs traffic.
- Reports violators of traffic rules to the supervisor. Reports unsafe student choices to the Principal.
- Places/removes traffic aids at the crosswalk on daily basis.
- Ensures that applicable clothing and equipment is available and in good repair.
- Remains current with changing technology, practices and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
