This posting This posting is to fill one (1) Permanent part-time position working 60 hours bi-weekly.
This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon .
Who We Are The Government of Yukon’s Continuing Care division is known for its exceptional standards, providing clients with the highest level of care and a healthy workplace for staff. Our facilities include: Whistle Bend Copper Ridge Thomson Centre Your impact Are you a compassionate individual looking to support delivery of culturally appropriate services to our First Nations residents/clients within the context of our long-term care homes? The First Nations Liaison Worker plans and develops culturally relevant events and support programs for Indigenous People. As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent actively participates in resident care planning, support of residents (youth, adults, and seniors) and their significant others. In addition, the incumbent also assists with the planning and provision of culturally relevant training and support for Continuing Care members.

Essential Qualifications Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
- Post secondary education or relevant training in a health, social services, Indigenous studies or community wellness related field
- Experience supporting Indigenous individuals, families, or communities in a health, social services, community or wellness setting
- Experience coordinating or supporting culturally relevant programming, events, or ceremonies
- Experience providing emotional support related to grief, loss, illness, disability or end-of-life would be considered an asset
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered. Please clearly demonstrate how these meet the essential qualifications.

Desired Knowledge, Skills And Suitability If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on the following:
- Excellent knowledge of culture, traditions, social history and economic conditions of Yukon First Nations
- Ability to assess the health, social and cultural needs relevant to First Nations residents while maintaining confidentiality
- Ability to plan, develop and implement culturally relevant programs and events for First Nations groups
- Ability to design and deliver education sessions to health care team members
- Ability to build partnerships with and obtain assistance from community partners, agencies or other stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team setting
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Conditions of employment You must meet the following conditions before being hired or within the time frame noted.
- RCMP vulnerable sector check
- TB screening
- CPR C with AED & Standard First Aid (completed within the past 30 months)
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence
- WHIMIS 2015
- Food safe level 1
Job Requirements This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Travel within Whitehorse and occasionally throughout the territory
- May be required to work at all three long-term care facilities
- Interaction with residents and their families, staff and members of the public
- Possible exposure to animals, plants/flowers, second-hand smoke, infectious disease, and latex products; working in temperatures of approximately 75 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celsius)
- Exposure to weather conditions when working outside with residents
