About the role
BCIT’s in-house Auxiliary Trades Support Services is looking for high caliber, dynamic and flexible individuals who have the skills and ability to work within the Institute in a variety of temporary assignments.
The temporary assignments could be part-time or full-time hours of work and located at any of the below BCIT Campus locations:
- Burnaby Campus
- Annacis Island Campus
- Aerospace Technology Campus
- Marine Campus
Assignments may vary from a few hours to several months in duration at any of our campuses. Auxiliary staff can be contacted the day assignments become available or with a few days of advanced notice. Due to the varying demand for services, there may be breaks between assignments, we therefore cannot guarantee ongoing employment.
We provide support where employees are absent due to sick leave, vacation, or to assist with heavy workloads. Flexibility and adaptability are crucial to being successful in a temporary role.
Duties & Responsibilities
Duties may include labour work, general maintenance, mechanical work. Employees often work as a Toolroom Attendant and there may be occasions to work as a First Aid Attendant.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS**:**
- Grade 12 plus 6 months post-secondary education and/or training such as trades training.
- Two years of general work experience plus one year of experience in trades environments such as construction or material handling.
- Knowledge of mechanical maintenance and hand tools.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment.
- Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office package.
- The ability to be called in on short-notice and work at various campus locations.
- Customer-service oriented with an emphasis on excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
- Trades Qualification, Forklift and Level Two or Three First Aid Certification are assets.
BCIT’s Human Resources accepts auxiliary pool applications on an ongoing basis.
Please note: these are the minimum required qualifications. This position is a dayshift position as defined in Article 14.1 of the Collective Agreement.

Salary varies based on position: $27.65 - $39.02 per hour.
