Summary The Fire Life Safety BAS Specialist will report to the Site CBM or designated Manager. Among other things, they will be responsible for completing code compliance inspections and assessing the risks, reporting on them and proposing possible solutions on topics related to fire prevention, compliance with the NFC, NFPA and other codes in force. Key Duties & Responsibilities Analysis and Reporting
- Inspects the client’s premises and ensures compliance with the laws and regulations and analyzes and creates an action plan to resolves any issues related Fire Life safety compliance requirements such as Emergency lighting; Fire extinguishers; Fire doors/separations and Fire Alarm systems.
- Inspects Fire Alarm systems and components as required by provincial code for Annual & Monthly compliance and completes required repairs as required.
- Analyzes the causes of fire alarms and trouble calls, follows up and provide solutions. Validates that changes are acceptable with the concerned parties.
Communication
- Acts as a liaison with Fire/Safety contractors to coordinate scheduled work and repairs.
- Maintains positive relationships with concerned parties and attempts to meet their expectations while considering owners' issues based on BI-1 requirements. Provides the necessary support with the main client of the building and assists in the coordination of evacuation plans.
- Prepares training plans for fire prevention awareness and the use of fire extinguishers and evacuation. Assists the property management team and various concerned parties, and provides support and training to resolve operational challenges
- Demonstrates leadership and initiative in the development of fire protection projects or action plans
- Manages and reports nonconformities and critical incidents. Actively participates in project requirements meetings and takes responsibility for the areas of their expertise.
Implementation
- Ensures the implementation of the solutions by bringing their expertise and support to the teams. Works with tenants to upgrade building emergency plans and coordinate their application with the building's main tenant.
- Will perform and be responsible for the following:
Fire System
- Monthly Fire Extinguisher Inspections.
- Weekly Fire Pump Inspections.
- Monthly Fire Alarm Inspections.
- Fire Drills.
- Provide Data for Fire System and BAS as needed.
- Coordinating annual work sub-contractor and reviewing reports.
- Daily troubleshooting and completion of demand work orders.
- Be responsible for the daily issue of Hot work Permits and Management of fire in detection in such areas.
Building Automation Systems and Software

Test, inspect, and troubleshoot low-voltage power equipment and systems, network communications, peripherals, valves, actuators, relays, and sensors during commissioning.

Verify the installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and electronic equipment and systems related to the BAS.

Perform inspections, tests, adjustments, and evaluations of low voltage electronic components and assemblies in accordance with manufacturer specifications and tolerances.

Utilize technical manuals and written instructions when deemed necessary to calibrate electrical and electronic equipment and instruments.

Performing the following tasks, with the support from JCI BAS Branch:

Programming and graphics of HVAC equipment via software and verify system performance.

Integrate building automation software with third-party systems via network connections and integration.

Simulate sequences of operations to verify proper operating parameters of systems and their performance by using the necessary software.

Download software to controllers and completion of on-site adjustments where necessary

Other duties as required.
Knowledge & Skills
- College studies (ACS) or a university degree in fire prevention.
- More than 3 years, up to 5 years of job-related experience.
- Have a good knowledge of fire prevention techniques, practices, as well as concepts related to fire prevention laws, regulations and ordinances.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in teams and in working groups.
- Ability to adapt.
- Patient and hardworking.
- Ability to interpret data, analyze and popularize information.
- Strong communication skills, including written, comprehension and verbal.
- Negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in commercial and office buildings would be an asset.
- Experience in physical security is considered an asset.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Must be Canadian Fire Alarm Association certified or equivalent
- Drivers License is required.
