What You Will Do The Senior Maintenance Technician will report directly to the Engineering Operations Manager. This position will undertake reactive and planned engineering maintenance activities and improvement works on mechanical handling equipment (MHE) such as conveyor networks, lifts, belts, etc. at the OIA client’s facility located on 9200 Boul Henri-Bourassa E, Montréal, QC.

The Senior Maintenance Technician’s Day-to-day Responsibilities Include

  • Reacting to MHE breakdowns (both mechanical and electrical), locating the fault, analysing the issue and completing the fix in a timely manner to keep operation downtime to a minimum;
  • Update accurate records such as work activities, tasks carried out, parts used through stores, etc;
  • Perform assembly and subassembly repairs by following written work instructions, blueprints and schematics;
  • Work closely with other departments to find ways to increase machine reliability on existing and new equipment, diagnose equipment breakdowns and action repairs
  • Attend meetings as required, analyze data and find solutions to improve equipment performance whilst ensuring safe working practice and full communications are maintained at all times;
  • Complete quality inspections to ensure work is completed to a safe standard
  • Follow all Health and Safety guidance
  • Align, prioritize and monitor KPI’s that support the Customer’s optimized service for its end customer/clients
  • Guides and supports junior team members; may assist in their formal orientation and training. Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Carry-out maintenance priorities and mentoring for the assigned Maintenance Technicians.

The Senior Maintenance Technician’s carry-out maintenance priorities. He/she mentors the assigned Maintenance Technician and may be asked to perform tasks as required by management deemed as a reasonable request.

If hired for a Pre Go Live / Start Up site, the initial 6 to 9 months will involve training and most likely require some travel in order to obtain the training from another site in North America. In the event the operation is undergoing its initial startup, the daily responsibilities for this role may be different while supporting the needs of a facility in its initial stages of starting its operations. Once the facility is commissioned, the roles defined in this job description will become the daily responsibilities for the Senior Maintenance Engineer.

Who You Are To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Degree from a vocational school or college with a focus in the Mechanical or Electrical field; Minimum 3 years of Ocado experience (for internal postings only); Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics field, preferably in an automation environment.
  • Strong electrical experience preferable within a FMCG environment;
  • Knowledge / experience of working with controls, analysing faults and providing solutions
  • Experience of both reactive and preventative maintenance;
  • Good technical ability relating to automation hardware and software would be an asset
  • Strong organization and communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplined team of varying levels of technical experience;
  • Must be comfortable working at heights.
  • Ability to work with a limited degree of supervision.
  • Sound analytical skills with an eye for detail; good problem solving ability and a practical approach.
  • Experience of working with computerized maintenance management systems is preferred
  • Numerate and PC literate including G-Suite and MS Office programs.
  • Flexible to working a shift-based pattern including nights and weekends
  • Ability to communicate in French is a good to have skill, but not mandatory

  • Ascending or descending ladders and stairs.
  • Moving between worksites to accomplish tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for a prolonged period.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 30 pounds in all directions. Work that includes moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.

  • Noisy environments.
