Reports to: Chef Manager
Location: Hamilton, ON
Hours of Work: 29 hours / week
Start Date: TBD
Posting Date: August 25th, 2025
The Kitchen Helper & Driver supports daily food preparation and kitchen sanitation for external and internal YWCA food services for childcare, transitional housing residents, the YWCA café and social enterprise catering.
This role is also responsible for the timely and safe delivery of meals and supplies to various YWCA Hamilton locations. The Kitchen Helper & Driver ensures all food is prepared, handled, and transported in compliance with both internal YWCA standards and external food safety and public health regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver food and supplies to all YWCA Hamilton childcare sites in a timely and safe manner;
- Pick up and drop off food products and equipment between YWCA Hamilton locations as needed;
- Ensure proper transportation of food, maintaining temperature control and quality standards;
- Load and secure food items and equipment to ensure safe and sanitary transport;
- Follow all traffic laws and YWCA vehicle safety procedures while driving;
- Conduct regular pre- and post-trip vehicle checks, maintains cleanliness and report any safety or maintenance issues promptly;
- Plan and follow efficient routes to ensure on-time food deliveries and pickups across YWCA Hamilton childcare locations;
- Maintain daily delivery logs and mileage record;
- Assists with food preparation and cooking activities;
- Prepares menu items according to recipes created by Chef Manager;
- Operates large and small kitchen appliances, including maintenance;
- Performs general housekeeping duties such as washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing, emptying garbage bins;
- Provides front of house customer service and assists with serving meals;
- Assists with receiving, inventory, and stocking shelves;
- Performs catering duties for special events;
- Contributes to building and supporting the kitchen/café team by helping where needed, using professional and respectful language, attending team meetings and trainings as required;
- Ensures compliance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act;
- Works safely and reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
- Familiar with, and adheres to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, (OHSA) Workplace Safety Insurance Board Act (WSIB), Human Rights and Employment Standards Act (ESA);
- Participates in annual Health & Safety training provided by the YWCA;
- Ensures compliance with YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures;
- Maintains high level of confidentiality/privacy when working with sensitive information;
- Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Experience in food service, retail or hospitality is an asset;
- Valid Class G Driver’s License required; with clean driver record;
- Ability to drive in different weather and traffic conditions;
- Must have Safe Food Handling certificate or willing to obtain at own time and cost;
- Must provide a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
- Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
- Ability to bring a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective to day to day work;
- Ability to work flexible hours and availability to work of days, afternoons, evenings, and weekend shifts;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;
- Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works 37.50 hours work week for FT or 15-29 hours work week for PT;
- Ability to use frequent medium physical effort: lifting up to 25 kg, bending and stooping, pushing and pulling;
- Work schedule consists of days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends shifts.
