Sr. Law Clerk
About the role
Provide comprehensive legal support for insurance and mutual fund distribution in Canada and the US, including research, drafting, review, and project coordination
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analyze the application and compliance of relevant laws and regulations.
- Draft and review documents with precision and clarity.
- Serve as contact for business partners and outside counsel.
- Manage projects involving complex and ambiguous legal issues and ensure timely completion.
- Perform complex and highly technical assignments requiring confidentiality, discretion and sound judgment.
- Monitor and stay current on changes in insurance and mutual fund distribution laws and regulations in Canada and the US. and proactively inform the team of relevant updates and implications.
Qualifications
- Law clerk diploma or equivalent education
- Five years of experience as a law clerk
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Strong legal research, analysis and drafting skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative to create efficiencies and improve processes within the team
- Able to build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to US and Canadian insurance and securities regulations
- Bilingual in French
- Associate membership with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario or US NALA certification
Working Conditions
- This is a hybrid position.
Compensation The salary for this position generally ranges between $85,000- $100,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
