About Us
Organic Traditions is a Canadian family owned and operated company established in 2001. We are a team of individuals whose focus is to create a meaningful impact on the health and wellness of people and our planet through superfoods. We strive to inspire people to fuel themselves with high-quality, organic nutrition for prevention, regeneration, and longevity so they can live their healthiest, most vibrant life possible.
We are a growing, fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization where individuals make huge impact. You can use your initiative, creativity, and skill to help take our established organic health food brand to the next level.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our food manufacturing facility. Working through a Fulfillment Manager, Production Lead, and Shipping & Receiving Supervisor, you will own production, fulfillment, and logistics operations — keeping throughput on track, quality uncompromised, and the team aligned.
This role is both a floor leader and an operational bridge. You will partner closely with QA & Regulatory, Supply Chain, Product Development, and People teams to ensure our plant runs safely, efficiently, and to plan. The ideal candidate thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and brings deep, practical food manufacturing experience with strong people leadership skills.
About the Role
Production Operations
- Own the master production schedule; translate weekly demand signals into daily production assignments and resource plans in coordination with Supply Chain & Demand Planning
- Lead daily pre-shift check-ins with plant leads to review targets, flag issues, and align on priorities
- Maintain active floor presence throughout shifts to coach, intervene, and ensure SOPs and quality specs are consistently met across all processes (mixing, bagging, filling, sprouting, and milling)
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks, equipment issues and process gaps; escalate to maintenance or management where required
- Review and enforce production SOPs; ensure procedures are current, accessible, and followed at all times
- Ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO/FEFO) for all raw materials and WIP
- Coordinate new SKU trials and line integrations with the Innovation team; ensure the production team is prepared before full-scale launch
- Perform and oversee daily and monthly CFIA monitoring tasks; maintain accurate records
Fulfillment, Shipping & Receiving
- Oversee the Fulfillment Manager's execution of order picking, packing, and PO fulfillment — holding the team to accuracy, throughput, and on-time delivery
- Ensure shipping & receiving processes inbound materials and outbound shipments accurately, with proper documentation (POs, BOLs, COAs)
- Monitor finished goods and raw materials inventory accuracy; ensure low-stock signals reach Supply Chain & Demand Planning promptly
- Serve as the escalation point for supplier or carrier issues that cannot be resolved at the supervisor level
- Continuously improve pick-and-pack workflows, space utilization, and labor efficiency in collaboration with direct reports
Food Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all plant operations comply with GMPs, HACCP principles, CFIA requirements, EH&S policies, and applicable municipal and federal regulations
- Champion a strong food safety culture on the floor; ensure all staff are trained before working independently and that records are current
- Support QA & Regulatory during internal & external audits, third-party inspections, and regulatory visits; drive timely corrective action follow-through
- Initiate holds and investigations for nonconforming materials or quality deviations; communicate immediately with QA & Regulatory
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner daily with QA & Regulatory, Supply Chain & Demand Planning, Innovation, and People teams to keep plant operations aligned with broader business needs
- Participate in planning meetings to translate demand forecasts and inventory signals into executable production and fulfillment schedules; surface capacity constraints or gaps early
- Liaise with the People & Culture team on workforce matters, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee relations in accordance with applicable Ontario Employment Standards
Continuous Improvement & Operational Performance
- Track and report key operational KPIs: units produced per shift, order fill rate, receiving accuracy, waste percentage, and on-time delivery.
- Lead floor-level process improvement initiatives — workflow redesign, layout improvements, equipment adjustments — and drive root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring issues.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency gains, waste reduction, or automation; present recommendations to management with supporting context.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the Fulfillment Manager, Production Lead, and Shipping & Receiving Supervisor; set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and hold direct reports accountable.
- Support direct reports in developing their own teams — provide guidance on hiring, onboarding, training, and day-to-day people management.
- Manage plant scheduling across all areas and shifts to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture where safety, quality, and continuous improvement are non-negotiable.
