About the Role Reporting to the Engineering Manager, and under the technical supervision of the lead reliability engineer, the Mechanical Reliability Engineer is a core member of Canada Royal Milk’s technical team. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer works collaboratively with plant production, maintenance, engineering team and quality assurance to continuously improve equipment and plant performance. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer is responsible for equipment reliability, equipment modifications, and installation of new equipment. They will spearhead and manage improvement of the plant maintenance program, machine reliability. The engineer will also lead root cause analysis, provide guidance to operators on equipment operation and maintenance procedures and develop new procedures and practices to support the overall TPM program. They will also lead capital projects and new machine installations. The Engineer demonstrates independent judgment in the planning, prioritization, and execution of projects, assignments and communications. Job Requirements Education: A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineering from an accredited university. Experience: 5+ years in a manufacturing environment, with hands-on experience in processing, and packaging equipment License: P. Eng is considered an Asset Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent understanding of manufacturing principles, methods, planning, materials and equipment design Proven experience with pneumatic systems, liquid and dry processing equipment, steam, and packaging equipment Proven experience working with equipment reliability and maintenance programs (Preventive or Predictive) Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve issues and ability to contact experts as needed Experience in sizing, maintaining and upgrading pumps, conveyors, valves, blowers Strong foundation in technical writing, preparing RFPs and RFQ and other vendor communications Excellent Computer skills – MS Office Applications and CAD software Experience with CMMS software is considered an asset Experience in Pharmaceutical or Food and Beverage facilities are considered an asset Experience with TSSA regarding boilers, pressure piping is considered an asset High level of initiative Superb interpersonal skills, a professional, collaborative attitude and sound judgment. Able to work with unionized employees. Fast learning ability, able to learn things and pick it up quickly. Able to make data driven and informed decisions and articulate them to the management team Strong time management and organization skills, able to manage concurrent projects, priorities and manage stakeholder expectations Key Duties and Responsibilities Participate in the oversight of manufacturing equipment installation, testing, operation and improvement Ability to work hands on and understand the fundamental of mechanical and electrical systems Provide technical support to operations and plant maintenance staff for troubleshooting equipment, coordinating efforts and expediting repairs Coordinate and lead projects with cross-functional departments (Engineering, R&D, Supply Chain, IT, Production) and external contractors to ensure equipment effectiveness, reliability, and safety Lead root cause analyses for equipment failure and develop and implement corrective and preventive actions. Work closely with plant maintenance staff to manage, audit, and improve the maintenance program using a CMMS Responsible for creating and improving the Mechanical PMs Drive energy cost and efficiency improvements across our operations Vendor communications and management for replacement parts, modifications and new equipment installation As a core member of the Engineering team, lead by example to create a culture that promotes safety and compliance Other duties may be assigned Working Conditions The standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Most of the work occurs during regular weekday office hours. However, as an international company with frequent interaction with head office, hours of work involved may vary to accommodate differences in time zones.Flexible hours are required and may include evening and week-end hours.
