The Impact You Will Have

We are seeking a Director of Financial Processes & Analytics to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will focus on strategic transformation initiatives to modernize the Finance function through technology, process improvements and data analytics. Integral to the role will be ensuring Finance’s ability to provide timely, actionable data to support business decision making and analytical requirements across the organization.

The role requires a blend of financial expertise, IT literacy, project management skills, and change management leadership. Working collaboratively with diverse teams across the organization and leveraging knowledge and experience in Finance including Treasury, Accounting and Risk, you will drive efficiency and performance through technology optimization and efficient workflows, ensuring that processes are measurable and scalable, data output and analytics is actionable, and making a significant impact in shaping the Finance function for the future.

What You Will Do

Process Workflow, Automation and Implementation:

  • Lead the documentation and analysis of current-state finance workflows to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Create a finance transformation plan and implementation roadmap (including a budget) that aligns with the UCU strategic objectives to meet business and regulatory needs.
  • Lead and execute the implementation roadmap.
  • Develop and document processes, procedures, and workflows to fully leverage current tools and systems.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and visualize future-state processes.
  • Identify and leverage advanced technologies and methodologies (including AI) to enhance financial operations and reporting.
  • Develop compelling business cases that demonstrate AI's potential for operational efficiency and cost reduction
  • Streamline processes and explore automation solutions to drive scalability and accuracy.
  • Develop business cases for new tools and technology to support transformational change and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of system rollouts by contributing to process design, user testing, and go-live planning

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership, department heads, and external partners to ensure alignment on transformative initiatives as well as business goals and measurable results.
  • Lead any related Request for Proposal (RFP) activities associated with the transformation.
  • Champion organizational change efforts to ensure the successful adoption of new processes and technologies across the finance team and the wider organization.
  • Identify and assess the impacts of the transformation initiatives on various stakeholders, and create plans to mitigate resistance and enhance acceptance.
  • Partner with IT and vendors to ensure smooth system integration and deployment.
  • Lead and support training and change management to ensure smooth adoption of new processes.
  • Mentor and lead team members to foster professional development and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

Performance Measurement & Insights:

  • Provide experience-based leadership and guidance on best practices of a finance transformation.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of improvements and transformation efforts.
  • Provide data-driven insights and ideas for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate finance and accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in a similar role ideally within the credit union/banking sector, or experience in a membership organization.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of progressive experience in accounting, with exposure to transaction processing environments.
  • Demonstrated success in driving process transformation, automation, or systems implementations within a financial environment.
  • Strong technology background with respect to finance, accounting, treasury and risk solutions for the financial services industry
  • Experience managing complex projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change, including communication, training, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Superior interpersonal skills to foster a culture of continuous improvement and educate employees on change initiatives.
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of leadership.
  • Familiar with Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) regulations and other industry and/or jurisdiction regulatory directives and guidelines, e.g., privacy legislation, general data protection (GDPR).
  • Written and verbal communication skills in English (fluent); Ukrainian and/or French (an asset)
  • Creativity and critical thinking to challenge the status quo.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify inefficiencies and think through practical solutions.
  • Organized, attention to detail, and possess excellent time management skills to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment

Employees of UCU enjoy an open work environment to allow for team support and collaboration. The office is located in Etobicoke and this role is fully onsite with some flexibility as required. Please note that this role will require some travel within the GTA as well as occasional evening or weekend work in order to accommodate meetings, networking, and community events.
