About the role

Job Number**:** 53041

The Community Recreation and Culture Branch is looking for dynamic, energetic, professional and qualified individuals to instruct our Mini-Movers class. If you are an instructor and want to share your passion for dance, obstacle courses and fundamental movement skills, then this is the position for you!

What you will do:

  • Plan and lead preschool and school aged children in various dance movements and obstacle courses
  • Instruct various fundamental movement skills through dance movements and obstacle courses to develop participant’s physical literacy
  • Deliver and lead group instruction in the time frame and manner that is determined by the class description
  • Ensure classes are progressive, challenging and can adapt to varying levels of participant skills and abilities
  • Encourage participants to improve on their progress in class
  • Maintain a high level of enthusiasm throughout the class
  • Promote the benefits of healthy living and physical activity
  • Provide outstanding customer service to participants and patrons
  • Sub classes and attend professional development workshops as needed
  • Ensure spaces are kept tidy and orderly before, during and after classes
  • Maintain program statistics, such as attendance, evaluations and incident reports
  • Attend training as required
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED

Assets:

  • Current enrolment in or completion of a post secondary program in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Personal Fitness Training or a Related Degree or Diploma
  • Experience instructing small and large groups
  • Knowledge in High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development and Canadian Sport for Life Fundamentals

Skills required for success:

  • Knowledge and experience in leading dance and obstacle course skills with preschool and school aged children
  • Ability to teach progressive dance and fundamental movements skills
  • Excellent customer service & communication skills
  • Ability to lead effectively and work within a team environment
  • Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies
  • Embracing a Culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion

Conditions of Employment:

  • Possession of valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C Certification
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Up to 2 Temporary Part-time ongoing positions

Hours of work: Up to 10 hours per week. Working at various City of Edmonton locations is required

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $50.000 - $66.000(Hourly)
