About the role
Great Blue Resorts owns and operates 10 private resort lakefront properties located throughout Ontario’s cottage country. These properties offer outright ownership of beautiful pre-manufactured seasonal recreational cottages. Our resorts have full facilities including community areas, swimming pools, splash pads, multi-sports courts, playgrounds and beaches.
Pool Attendant Role Overview
The Pool Attendant role in Great Blue Resorts is fundamental in the overall success of the business. This Position is key to ensuring safety and accident prevention in and around the pool area.
This Pool Attendant position is responsible for enforcing rules and regulations, maintaining order in designated area as a proactive approach to ensuring safety.
Skills & Qualifications
A Pool Attendant requires the following skills
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Skill in the application of Pool Attendant surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Knowledge emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
- Strong swimming skills.
- Observational skills.
- An excellent level of concentration.
- Strong communication skills, especially in an emergency.
- Should be capable of lifting and transferring 15 – 30 kgs. in a safe manner;
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Open and close the pool as per the schedule
- Remove automated pool cleaner in the morning and put it back on in the evening if applicable
- Provide a clean pool and deck area
- Test the pool chemical levels and balance when necessary
- Ensure the correct pool temperature and adjust when necessary
- Maintain accurate logs in accordance with regulations
- Ensures all pool equipment is working in a satisfactory manner and reports any issues promptly
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- CPR/First Aid certification is an asset
- Knowledge of swimming pools chemistry and maintenance is an asset
- Ability to work well independently
- Excellent Communication skills
- Must be safety conscious
- Must be dependable
POOL RULES
The following rules are commonly used at community and public pools. Not every rule may apply to your pool.
Pool rules must be posted in pool area for Owners and Guests to be able to clearly read.

“No Pool Attendant on Duty” must be posted at all wading pools and all pools where there is a “swim at your own risk” time.

Bather load must be posted (total # of swimmers allowed in pool area, includes water and deck).
-
All Owners and Guests must shower before entering the pool.
-
No glass allowed in the pool area.
-
Diving shall not be permitted in water 5 ft. or less in depth.
-
No dogs or other pets shall be permitted in the pool area.
-
Admission to the pool shall be refused to any persons having contagious disease or infectious condition.
-
All infants and toddlers not potty trained, must have on rubber pants over their swim diapers.
-
Admission to the pool shall be limited to members in good standing, their families and guests of their families.
-
A child under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult (over the age of 18) member.
-
The pool may be closed for maintenance, health conditions, weather, or any other reason deemed necessary by the Pool Attendant or General Manager.

When there is vomit or fecal matter in the pool, the pool must be shut down, based on the requirements of the local health department.

Swimsuits shall be worn in the pool. No jean cut offs or street clothing shall be allowed in the pool.
-
Food, drink, gum, and tobacco shall be allowed only in designated areas.
-
Trash should be placed in the provided receptacles.
-
Damage to resort property, including trees, shrubbery, furniture, etc. shall not be permitted and anyone responsible for such damage shall be held liable.

All floats, swim fins, masks, snorkels, air mattresses, and other toys/accessories shall be allowed in pool at the discretion of the Pool Attendant.

Piggyback games and standing on shoulders shall not be permitted.
-
Breath holding contests/games shall not be permitted, as they increase risk of shallow water blackout.

Frisbees & balls shall be permitted at the Pool Attendant’s discretion.

Flips and diving backwards, Running and rough play off the pool sides shall not be permitted.
