As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will plan, design and implement Asset Management (AM) strategies for the three Water Utility lines of service to achieve our technical and customer levels of service. You will also support long and short-term strategic AM strategies to achieve long-term health and sustainability of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure of the City of Calgary. Primary duties include:
- Develop and implement short- and long-term condition assessment plans for critical assets to support lifecycle planning and long-term investment strategies across water service asset classes.
- Plan and monitor annual capital Asset Management programs for asset replacement and rehabilitation to maintain technical and customer service standards.
- Apply leading risk management practices to ensure critical utility assets operate within acceptable risk exposure levels.
- Contribute to long-range infrastructure planning, servicing studies, and operational strategies, including risk assessment, service level analysis, and strategic planning.
- Analyze trends and develop solutions for integrated water utility systems, including treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, ponds, and outfalls.
- Design and prototype methodologies and tools for lifecycle costing, risk analysis, and data-driven decision-making using statistical and data mining techniques.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement AM strategies and best practices for process improvement and asset performance.
- Build strong relationships with internal technical experts, operations teams, business units, and external partners.
- Assist with budget planning, business case development, and project management activities.
- Prepare reports, presentations, training materials, and documentation on AM principles, practices, and strategies for water utility infrastructure.
Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and at least 1 year of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - A strong background and keen interest in water, wastewater and stormwater utilities.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
- Previous experience in underground and process pipe inspection, data analytics, asset and risk management, and project management. Working knowledge of treatment plants and/ or linear systems design, operations and maintenance, and strong analytical skills would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work with complex and integrated information systems such as Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS) and knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), SAP Business Objects/ Web Intelligence, advanced Excel, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Oracle Work and Asset Management (WAM) or IBM Maximo will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires strong skills in water utility asset condition assessment, risk assessment, independent decision making, change management, and relationship building.
