About the role

Student Internship Support Worker 3

Location: London, ON, Strathroy ON

Site: Widmore, Hull

Schedule: 35–40 hours per week; varied shifts including weekends and public holidays

Term: Mid-June to Labour Day 2026

Compensation: $17.95 + vacation pay

Summary of Roles & Responsibilities

Working with children and youth in an out-of-home emergency/urgency stabilization setting.

Collaborate with teams to implement care plans that support participant's involvement in person-centered programs that promote educational, behavioural, developmental, psychological, and emotional growth.

Creating and providing a safe, secure, and supportive environment for participants by developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships that attend to the diverse needs of youth.

Supporting youth who may present with high or escalating behaviours, using a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach.

Engaging participants in meaningful recreational activities both inside the home and in the community to promote social, emotional, and physical wellbeing

Navigating conflict, overcoming obstacles, and being creative in providing support to participants while remaining calm and focused in crisis situations by utilizing effective de-escalation and decision-making skills.

Work successfully with diverse groups and demonstrate commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to health, community services, education, child and youth studies, psychology, social sciences, family studies, kinesiology, or a related field
  • Successful completion of Safe Management training (provided by the employer).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to support individuals with diverse needs in a respectful and non-judgmental manner
  • Willingness to learn and apply appropriate behaviour support strategies
  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to manage changing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice

Requirements

  • Ability to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the position
  • Satisfactory Police Broad Sector Check (completed upon conditional offer)
  • Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C with AED) preferred

About the Role

This is a paid, full-time summer position designed for students looking to build practical knowledge and skills in a community support setting. Support Workers will receive training, mentorship, and supervision to enhance their professional growth.
