COMMENCING: September 2, 2025 until June 30, 2026, or one day prior to the return of the incumbent, whichever occurs first.
COMPENSATION: Educational Assistant 2 Payband $24.12 to $27.97
HOURS: 6.5 hours per day
JOB SUMMARY:
A Rehabilitation Assistant is required support students’ safety and wellbeing (physical, social, academic, and behavioral needs);
to introduce and reinforce life skills; to assist in delivering individualized programming to develop, maintain or restore physical,
psychosocial, cognitive and/or communication skills and to provide supervision and respond to student behavior as needed.
This position supports the strategic actions of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
As the Rehabilitation Assistant, you will:
- Support students to strengthen skills and foster independence through developing, maintaining or restoring physical,
psychosocial, cognitive and/or communication skills as directed by a school clinician such as speech/language, occupational
and/or physical therapists.
- Plan and assists with established rehabilitative activities, delivered individually or in groups, such as: mobility and
strengthening exercises, walking programs, activities of daily living (e.g. lifting, toileting, dressing, feeding, catheterization,
etc.), communication, reading or writing practice; home management such as meal planning and preparation; vocational
support or leisure activities.
- Encourage, model and support positive student interaction with peers.
- Report observations of students’ performance including response to therapeutic programming to clinical team to assist in
planning.
- Demonstrates the use of treatments / adaptive devices such as braces, wheelchairs and walkers and modified eating
utensils and personal care items as directed.
- Assist with organization of special devices, technology, materials and teaching aids.
- including set up, organization, cleaning and maintenance of furnishings and equipment for related activities as directed and
report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Assist students with mobility (lifting in and out of mobility equipment), entering and leaving the buses and transition from
one area to another.
- Assist with a variety of record keeping procedures.
- Act as member of the clinical team and attend team meetings and professional development as required.
- Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures and contribute to a safe work environment.
- Act with integrity and diligence in carrying out responsibilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
- Completion of Rehabilitation Assistant Program or equivalent AND a minimum of two (2) years working with children of all
ages; preference will be given to those who have experience working with children with physical, cognitive and /or
behavioural challenges OR an equivalent combination of post-secondary education training and experience.

First Aid and CPR training completed within the probationary period (90 working days).

Proficiency in swimming and ability to participate in swim programming may be required.

Knowledge and experience in supporting physical, social, behavioural, and developmental student needs.

Knowledge and proficiency using technology to support communication and expression.

Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and work as a team member.

Demonstrated ability to explain concepts and issues and develop rapport while maintaining a therapeutic relationship with
students, on a one-to-one basis and in group settings.
- Understanding of human development specifically for infancy and early childhood, middle childhood and early
adolescence, and adolescence to young adulthood.
- Knowledge of activity analysis.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety preferred.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret situations accurately and act accordingly.
- A positive outlook with a belief in the ethic of caring and inclusion.
- Ability to meet physical demands of position which may include lifting, transferring or using restraint techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages (English and French) may be required.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
- Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
- Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
