As an IT Engineer II, you will work within the Fixed Wireless Network team to research, design, and implement critical network infrastructure. You will provide engineering expertise and technical leadership on projects, conduct active research and analysis for leading-edge smart city technologies, and develop and implement innovative solutions. Also, you will be involved in solution architecture design, proof of concept and prototype development, and delivering solutions to meet business need(s). Primary duties include:

  • Provide engineering expertise on projects and network related activities including the preparation of contract specifications, project design, project estimates and recommends solutions.
  • Monitor projects, coordinate activities with internal and external resources, and define business and technical requirements.
  • Update, track and report on inventory as per Asset Management legislated requirements.
  • Develop business cases for capital projects.
  • Provide direction to indirect reports and coordinates the day-to-day operational function through planning, prioritizing, delegating, assigning, and organizing workloads. Participate in the hiring process and provide input into performance reviews.
  • Guide and mentor new Engineers, Engineers in Training (EIT).
  • Develop and deliver presentations, participate in town hall meetings, and lead focus groups.
  • Manage vendors that provide wireless products, solutions and services to The City of Calgary.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • You must have at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Experience in the following areas is required:
    • Small Cell technologies utilizing LTE, 5G, WiFi or LoRA WAN for Private Wireless Networks.
    • Private fixed wireless, broadband, and narrowband technology.
    • Radio frequency planning, coverage and link analysis.
    • Wi-Fi, data networking, network security and network management.
    • Wireless standards, emerging wireless technologies and the regulatory environment.
    • Radio and antenna installation planning.
    • Telecommunication tower management including structural analyses and inspections in accordance with government and industry standards.
  • Experience in Microsoft products, Remedy, Waterfall/ Agile Project Management methodology, Ethernet, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)-V3 will be considered assets.
  • Successful applicant will possess excellent communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to think strategically in a technical environment; demonstrated project planning and project management skills; as well as the ability to present complicated technical ideas to audiences of varying sophistication, garner support, and build consensus on contentious issues within a team environment.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
