-Recruitment range: $69,052- $76,129 starting salarydetermined by the PEA Collective Agreement. -Performance range: $89,791salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Mandate: UVic’s Gustavson School of Business is a non-traditional business school that develops purpose-driven, responsible citizens and leaders making a difference in the world through business. Objectives:
Reporting to the Director, Communications & Marketing, this position creates strategic, creative and engaging content across digital and multi-media platforms.
An excellent writer dedicated to their craft, the Content Officer (CO) is a natural storyteller with a knack for creating content that drives action. They are SEO - savvy, love a good style guide, believe in the power of concise and short-form storytelling while recognizing when long-form content is effective. A multi-skilled writer who can comfortably cross traditional marketing and communications silos, they may be drafting ad copy one day and writing about faculty research for social the next. They can script a video, strategize and write content for an email campaign, and confidently interview subjects for their next online story.
Working as part of a nimble, integrated marcom team, the CO develops content from idea to execution, with a special emphasis on recruitment and brand storytelling. They are responsible for creating compelling, persuasive copywriting as part of multi-channel campaigns, at all stages of the marketing funnel. They are also a detailed-attuned editor who knows the importance of accuracy and clear language.
Job Requirements
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or similar; plus 5 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- Experience researching ideas, interviewing subject-matter experts and making strategic content decisions
- Detail-attuned with a knack for bringing content strategy to life through storytelling.
- Familiarity and comfort with interpreting and applying brand and style guides.
- Combining a love of language with creativity, curiosity, and the ability to write accessible, engaging copy for a variety of platforms
- Sound knowledge of and experience with email marketing tools and CRMs (i.e. Envoke, SalesForce), content management systems for social (ex. Hootsuite, Sprout Social), project management (ex. Asana, MS suite), and web content management systems (i.e. Cascade, WordPress)
- Thorough knowledge of digital accessibility standards
- Commitment to valuing diversity, contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment, and furthering DEI on campus through inclusive marketing
- Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills
- Ability to apply project management best practices to achieve project goals on time
- Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective content strategies to achieve desired outcomes
- Ability to collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and work effectively in a team environment
