About the role
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant assists with leading the accounting department and team, always following financial processes and procedures of the company. This individual works closely with the management on cost reporting and accounting, managing payroll, and various accounting duties within the department. The Accountant will be directly involved with obtaining financing, and preparing and overseeing the audit/review engagement.
*Specific Accountabilities: *
- Maintain appropriate documentation for deal memos, contracts, and timesheet for processing.
- Complete T4 and T4A filings.
- Workers Compensation Board (WCB) reporting.
- Process Record of Employments (ROE?s).
- Manage, train, and coach the Accountant Assistant team.
- Review weekly payroll, sending to the Director for approval.
- Manage the petty cash, ensuring the costs are tracked and communicated to the Director.
- Process and accurately record vendor payments on a weekly basis.
- Process all related party transactions for corporate costs.
- Review and oversee weekly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly GST returns.
- Manage monthly intercompany reconciliations.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cost reports and bank reports for management.
- Monitor budgets, analyze expenses and cost reports, and forecast estimated final costs.
- Review of all accounting records to ensure all costs have been appropriately recorded including the allocation of Manitoba labour.
- Compile information for company audits/reviews and oversee all aspects of the audit/review engagement.
- Prepare ad hoc company financial analysis as requested by management.
- Prepare company information for inclusion in the annual consolidated financial reporting.
Qualifications:
· 3+ years of relevant managerial experience
· 6+ years of accounting experience including budgets and financial reporting.
· A degree in accounting or similar education is preferred, plus the completion of a bookkeeping and payroll course or diploma required.
· Experience with preparing and processing manual payroll is required.
· Knowledge of Sage 50 software is preferred.
· Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs.
