We are looking for a motivated LINC Instructor to join our Language Team at our Burnaby location!

POSITION: LINC Instructor - Burnaby Language Centre

DEPARTMENT: Employment, Language, and Social Enterprise

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and sustain a safe and positive learning environment

  • Integrate new students as they join the class in a way that is welcoming

  • Use the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) to inform planning

  • Identify achievable learning objectives relevant to students

  • Apply the principles of communicative and task-based lesson planning

  • Use current and appropriate media technology (e.g., MOODLE, Smart Board, Computer Lab) as a tool to support students’ language learning and/or real-life skills (e.g., computer literacy, writing an email, reading a website)

  • Identify when a learner needs assistance and respond appropriately by making adaptation within the curriculum and the classroom. Refer students to appropriate internal or external resources in response to students’ needs

  • Use a variety of assessment tools and techniques appropriate for ongoing formative assessment in relation to the CLB descriptors for the four skill areas. Follow Language and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) protocol in designing, delivering, recording, and reporting assessments as applicable

  • Manage students in the online MOODLE course and ensure students fully access the online course through training materials and peer mentoring

  • Maintain student attendance records, and forward a monthly report to the appropriate staff person

  • Supervise classroom volunteers or classroom assistants

  • Keep the Manager and Instructional Developer regularly informed on participant progress
    and achievement of outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada-recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.

  • At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods. Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience an asset.

  • CLB Bootcamp certificate or equivalent training is required.

  • Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) is an asset.

  • Completion of Orientation to the ESL for Adult Literacy Learners offered through the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks is considered an asset https://learning.language.ca/

  • Competent degree of computer literacy using e-mail, word processing programs, and learner management systems. Experience facilitating online learning environments is an asset.

  • Highly organized, tactful, versatile, and flexible with excellent communication skills; sensitive to and understanding of the needs of adult immigrant learners; attitudes and values in keeping with the goals and philosophies of MOSAIC.

  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required

COMPENSATION: $31.26 - $34.56 per hour

**HOURS:**14 hours per week. EVE Shift. Fixed term until March 31, 2026.
