Position Summary:
The Financial Analyst provides accounting and financial administration support to ensure accurate analysis and reporting of agency budgets. This role prepares financial statements and internal and external reports for review and approval.
Working under the direction of the Manager of Finance, the Financial Analyst tracks, monitors, and analyzes departmental financial statements, performs account reconciliations, prepares journal entries, and supports monthly, quarterly, and annual year-end reporting in accordance with established policies and procedures.
All employees are responsible for promoting and implementing Ongwanada’s mission, vision, values, and service principles, and for fulfilling responsibilities in accordance with all applicable legislation, policies, and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Perform financial and accounting duties, including account analyses, variance analysis, processing financial transactions, and departmental journal entries, including supporting documentation
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes through preparation of working papers, reconciliations, analyses, and reports
- Track, monitor, and analyze departmental financial statements
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Assist with day-to-day accounting operations, including integration of financial processes and procedures
- Maintain organized electronic and paper financial records
- Respond to inquiries and provide accurate financial information in a timely manner
Systems, Controls, & Compliance
- Support monitoring and reporting of financial management systems, including internal controls and procedures
- Understand and adhere to internal audit requirements
- Support the annual audit process as required
Operations & Continuous Improvement
- Develop custom reports, standard reports, and complex queries
- Provide input into the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and guidelines

Education/Qualifications Required
- Diploma in Accounting.
Experience Required
- 2-4 years accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit work environment.
Effort Required
- Sitting for long periods of time in meetings or at a desk/computer.
- Day to day activities may lead to minor stress.
Working Conditions
- Valid G license and access to reliable transportation.

About Ongwanada
Ongwanada has been a member of the community since 1948 and has been working in developmental services since 1967. A non-profit, accredited organization, Ongwanada supports people with developmental disabilities, with a special focus on those with complex needs, and their families, so they can lead full lives, effectively supported in their communities.
The organization offers a wide range of individualized services and community supports to hundreds of people with developmental disabilities and their families in Kingston and Eastern Ontario. Our funding comes primarily from the Ministry of Community and Social Services and we are managed by a volunteer Board of Governors.
Our programs and services are delivered at three main sites in Kingston, more than 20 community residences as well as other homes, including the Southeastern Regional Transitional Treatment home and a home specifically designed for those with complex needs. In addition to residential options, additional services include, but are not limited to: Planning and Case Management, Clinical Services, Respite, Community Behavioural Services, Adult Protective Services, and Community Participation Supports.
We also maintain strong partnerships with Queen's University and collaborate internationally in research to enhance the understanding and improve the quality of life of individuals with developmental disabilities.
